JPMorgan to deploy autonomous AI agents this year

JPMorgan Chief Analytics Officer Derek Waldron said the bank plans to deploy more advanced artificial intelligence (AI) agents later this year that will be able to operate autonomously for hours at a time, CNBC reported on Tuesday.

"We've entered now the era of long-running autonomous agents," Waldron said, adding that the technology could eventually operate for days or even weeks without human intervention. He said AI agents are evolving from tools that perform individual tasks into digital workers capable of managing complex workflows across multiple software programs.

JPMorgan said AI is already improving business performance. According to Waldron, AI-powered tools have boosted gross sales in private banking by 20%. At the same time, the bank believes the technology could eventually allow bankers to increase client coverage by as much as 50%. "For enterprises to win with AI, it's not about cutting the maximum number of jobs," he said. "It's all about trying to create a sustainable competitive advantage."
