A US Customs and Border Protection officer opened fire at another driver during a road rage incident near JFK Airport early Tuesday, authorities and sources said.
The federal officer said the other motorist began assaulting him after the two got into a fender-bender around 4:50 a.m. on the southbound Van Wyck Expressway, near the entrance to the airport’s central terminal, according to Port Authority Police and law enforcement sources.
The customs cop then opened fire with his duty weapon, letting off several rounds, police said.
The allegedly violent motorist, who had been driving a silver Mercedes with New Jersey plates, drove off with his rear window shattered, according to the sources.
No injuries were reported.
The officer was off-duty at the time of the altercation, the PAPD said.
He refused medical attention at the scene, according to the sources.
CBP did not respond to a request for comment.
The incident remains under investigation by the PAPD.
