Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on Tuesday that Hungary has signed a five-year agreement with US energy company Chevron to secure liquefied natural gas supplies, marking the first time American LNG will enter the country's energy mix.
Under the deal, state-owned MVM will receive 400 million cubic meters of LNG per year, totaling 2 billion cubic meters over five years. Szijjarto described the agreement as a major "milestone in Hungarian–U.S. energy cooperation." He said Washington is contributing to Hungary's energy security, while criticizing Brussels for policies that, in his view, threaten supply stability and raise prices.
"We are interested in purchasing energy from as many sources and via as many routes as possible, ensuring the lowest prices," he said on X.
