Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed during a press conference on Sunday that the Palestinian Authority (PA) is "not interested in peace with Israel."
"They are interested in peace without Israel. They don't want a Palestinian State next to Israel. They want a Palestinian State instead of Israel," he remarked. He went on to express his doubts that the Palestinian Authority will change its mind. Netanyahu insisted that most Israelis want to live in peace with their Palestinian neighbours, but the other side has to stop with the hostile rhetoric.
Talking about the entire region, Netanyahu said he believes "there is a path to achieving broader peace with the Arab countries." On his part, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz mentioned that while Germany supports the PA, it also criticizes some of its actions. He noted that even though Berlin wants a Palestinian State, it is unlikely to recognize it "in the near future."
