United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will work to secure the Winter Olympics in Italy, ICE told AFP on Tuesday. The agency will cooperate with the US Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service and Italian authorities to "vet and mitigate risks from transnational criminal organizations."
ICE added that it will "obviously" not conduct any immigration enforcement operations during the event and that Italy will remain in charge of any potential security operations. The US agency provoked repeated condemnation and massive protests after its agents killed two people in Minnesota during demonstrations against its violent immigration crackdown policies.
