Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey asked during a press conference on Saturday for the United States National Guard's assistance following the shooting of a 37-year-old individual by federal agents earlier in the day and amid the ongoing unrest in the city.
"Our officers are tired," Frey stated, while calling on US President Donald Trump to remove Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from the city. The incident comes amid an already strained security situation in Minneapolis, where protests against ICE operations have been ongoing since last year.
The Trump administration and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz clashed in the aftermath of the fatal shooting. Walz called on Trump to end ICE's operations in the state, whereas the US president accused him of inciting an insurrection.
