US President Donald Trump launched the Board of Peace on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, calling attendees "all stars" and urging them to use their "very inspired genius" for global peace. "What we're doing is so important. This is something I really wanted to be here and do, and I could think of no better place," Trump said.
Leaders from Hungary, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Morocco, Argentina, Uzbekistan, and Paraguay followed, signing the charter in pairs. The Board, originally focused on Gaza, now seeks broader peacebuilding, working alongside, but sometimes independently of, the United Nations.
The formation of the new organization comes amid recent US military action in Venezuela and the president's provocative moves regarding Greenland and possible intervention in Iran.
