The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes released on Wednesday indicated that some members were worried that the Middle East crisis and rising oil prices may necessitate rate hikes.
Moreover, it was noted that inflation risks were "more skewed to the upside" compared to the FOMC January meeting. Officials observed that overall inflation remained above the committee's long-term goal of 2%. At the same time, 11 out of 12 voting members backed the March decision to maintain interest rates at their current level. Federal Reserve Governor Stephen Miran favored lowering the funds rate by 0.25 basis points.
The Fed left rates steady after both FOMC meetings this year, after three-easing cycles in late 2025.
