Senior Iranian officials were involved in a "severe disagreement" yesterday over the makeup of the negotiating team scheduled to travel to Pakistan for talks with the United States, Iran International reported on Friday.
According to the report, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander Ahmad Vahidi tried to "limit the powers" of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. He also allegedly wanted the team to include Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, while other delegation members believed he "lacks the necessary experience." The IRGC also reportedly insisted that the negotiating team not discuss Iran's missile program.
