US GDP growth revised down to 0.5% in Q4

The gross domestic product (GDP) in the United States fell 0.5% annually in the fourth quarter of 2025, a 0.2% less than the 0.7% figure in the previous estimate for the quarter, the Bureau of Economic Analysis revealed on Thursday. The figure came in lower than the analysts expected.

The price index for gross domestic purchases rose 3.7% in the quarter, while the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index was up by 2.9%. The PCE price index excluding food and energy grew 2.7%.

"The contributors to the increase in real GDP in the fourth quarter were increases in consumer spending and investment. These movements were partly offset by decreases in government spending and exports. Imports, which are a subtraction in the calculation of GDP, decreased," it was detailed in the report. The slowdown marked a sharp drop from 4.4% growth in the previous quarter.
