4 GOP lawmakers join Dems to force Obamacare vote

 Four moderate Republican representatives signed a petition brought by Democrats in the House of Representatives on Wednesday to force a vote on extending Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) subsidies. The subsidies were at the center of the rift between the two parties that caused the government shutdown earlier this year. They are set to expire at the end of the year, significantly increasing insurance premiums for around 22 million United States citizens.

The 214 Democratic lawmakers were joined by Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick, Mike Lawler, Rob Bresnahan, and Ryan Mackenzie. "The only policy that is worse than a clean three-year extension without any reforms [of Obamacare] is a policy of complete expiration without any bridge. Unfortunately, it is House leadership themselves that have forced this outcome," Fitzpatrick commented.
