India's Modi says trade deal with EU signed

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during a speech on Tuesday that a trade agreement between his country and the European Union had been signed.

The prime minister hailed the deal, describing it as the "mother of all deals" as it represents 25% of global GDP and approximately one-third of international trade. He said that this agreement is the "perfect example of a partnership" between the world's major economies.

Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are expected to make a joint statement at an India–EU summit in New Delhi later in the day, revealing further details of the deal.
