Seoul says wasn't officially notified of Trump's tariff increase

South Korea's presidential office, Cheong Wa Dae, said it wasn't officially notified of United States President Donald Trump's plan to hike tariffs on South Korean imports, Yonhap reported on Tuesday.

"There has been no official notification or explanation of the details from the US government so far," the presidential office said. Kim Yong-beom, the presidential chief of staff for policy, will set up an interagency meeting to examine South Korea's response, it added. Additionally, Industry Minister Kim Jung-hwan plans to visit the US and address the issue with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick soon, the report noted.

Trump announced on Monday he would be raising tariffs on the Asian ally's goods from 15% to 25% over the country's delay to ratify a trade deal it reached with Washington.
