HHS updates cybersecurity tool kit

HHS has introduced a new cybersecurity module in a tool kit used by thousands of healthcare organizations.

The agency’s Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response updated the Risk Identification and Site Criticality 2.0 Toolkit, aka RISC, which is employed by over 3,500 hospitals and health systems. The new module asks users about their cybersecurity policies and practices, scoring them against industry frameworks.

“We must acknowledge that cyber safety is patient safety and that cyber threats can cause cascading problems across the healthcare industry,” said John Knox, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, in a March 5 news release. “The new cybersecurity module will help our partners understand what is needed to strengthen their resilience, and we strongly encourage them to take advantage of it.”
