Trudeau gets caught on hot mic saying Trump’s plans to annex Canada are ‘a real thing’

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was caught on a hot mic saying President Trump’s talk of making Canada the 51st state was “a real thing” — warning that Trump was after the country’s rich critical minerals resources.

Trudeau made the comments to Canadian business and labor leaders in a closed door meeting Friday in remarks that were accidentally broadcast on a loudspeaker, CBS News reported.

“I suggest that not only does the Trump administration know how many critical minerals we have, but that may be even why they keep talking about absorbing us and making us the 51st state,” Trudeau said, according to The Daily Beast.

“They’re very aware of our resources, of what we have, and they very much want to be able to benefit from those. But Mr. Trump has it in mind that one of the easiest ways of doing that is absorbing our country. And it is a real thing,” he was caught saying.

The comments were confirmed by Gil McGowan, president of the Alberta Federation of Labour in an X post Friday.

“Yes, I can confirm that Trudeau said his assessment is that what Trump really wants is not action on fentanyl or immigration or even the trade deficit — what he really wants is to either dominate Canada or take it outright. Tariffs are a tactic towards that end,” McGowan said.

Since returning to office, Trump has vowed to impose tariffs on America’s largest trading partners to raise revenue, correct trade deficits, and punish the trio of nations for looking the other way while deadly fentanyl enters the United States.

Just days after taking office, Trump announced plans to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, with an additional 10% on China. The Canadian and Mexican duties were both put on hold for a month at the eleventh hour.

Trump has frequently spoken about his desire to incorporate Canada into the United States and in the past has referred to Trudeau as “Governor Trudeau.” He has also publicly declared plans to acquire Greenland, the Panama Canal, and the Gaza strip.

'Lebanon PM forms new government, pledging reforms'

Lebanon formed a new government on Saturday, following unusually direct U.S. intervention in the process and in a step intended to bring the country closer to accessing reconstruction funds following a devastating war between Israel and Hezbollah.

Speaking to reporters at the presidential palace, new Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the 24-member cabinet would prioritise financial reforms, reconstruction and the implementation of a United Nations resolution seen as a cornerstone to stability on the Lebanese border with Israel.

The announcement came after more than three weeks of talks with rival political parties in Lebanon - where government posts are parcelled out according to sect - and days of deadlock over the Shi'ite Muslim ministers, usually named by Iran-backed Hezbollah and its Shi'ite ally Amal.

But Washington has pushed back against Hezbollah's sway in any new government.

U.S. deputy Middle East envoy Morgan Ortagus said on Friday that the U.S. considered Hezbollah's involvement in the new cabinet a "red line" and thanked Israel for dealing devastating blows to the group, in a controversial statement that sparked protests in Lebanon.

Ultimately, Hezbollah's ally Amal - which is headed by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri - was allowed to choose four of the new cabinet's members, including Finance Minister Yassin Jaber, and give its nod of approval to a fifth.

That prevents Hezbollah and its allies from wielding a "blocking third" in the government, where a two-thirds vote is needed to pass some decisions.

The U.S. embassy in Lebanon welcomed the cabinet announcement, saying it hoped it would rebuild Lebanon's state institutions and implement needed reforms.

The Christian Lebanese Forces Party, which is fiercely opposed to Hezbollah and has not been part of a cabinet in more than five years, also picked four ministers, including Foreign Affairs Minister Youssef Raji and Energy Minister Joseph Saddi.

Salam said he hoped the politically diverse cabinet would "work in harmony".

"This government will seek to restore confidence between citizens and the state, between Lebanon and its Arab surroundings, and between Lebanon and the international community," he said.

Lebanon has been hit hard over the last half-decade by a financial collapse that impoverished large parts of the population, a cataclysmic explosion at the Beirut port and a more than year-long war between Israel and Hezbollah that destroyed swathes of the country.

Forming a cabinet was seen as an essential step to undertaking reforms that could open the door to a financing plan under the International Monetary Fund and accessing support from key Gulf countries to help rebuild destroyed areas.

The United Nations said the government formation "heralds a new and brighter chapter for Lebanon", and said it hoped to work with the new cabinet on reforms and implementing U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for disarming armed groups in Lebanon - seen as a reference to Hezbollah.

Salam said on Saturday the new cabinet would prioritise implementing that resolution, along with the ceasefire deal that ended the last year of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

That deal stipulates that Israeli troops should leave southern Lebanon, Hezbollah should pull out its fighters and arms and the Lebanese army should deploy in the area by Feb. 18.

The cabinet is now charged with drafting a policy statement - a broad outline of the upcoming government's approach and priorities - and will then need a vote of confidence from Lebanon's parliament to be fully empowered.

Lebanese president Joseph Aoun, who enjoyed U.S. backing as army commander, was elected as president on January 9 and nominated Salam to form a new government days later. Salam had been serving as the head of the International Court of Justice.

Salam's nomination was the latest signal of a dramatic shift in the power balance in Lebanon, following the heavy blows Israel dealt to Hezbollah, the ousting in December of Hezbollah's Syrian ally Bashar al-Assad and Aoun's election last month.

Orban, Le Pen hail Trump at 'Patriots' summit in Madrid

Leaders of far-right parties in the European Parliament's third-largest voting bloc, Patriots for Europe, praised Donald Trump's return to power at a gathering in Madrid on Saturday held under the slogan "Make Europe Great Again".

The event featured Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Italian deputy premier Matteo Salvini, as well as the leaders of France's National Rally (RN), Marine Le Pen, and the Netherlands' PVV party, Geert Wilders.

"The Trump tornado has changed the world in just a few weeks ... yesterday we were heretics, today we're mainstream," Orban told around 2,000 supporters, most of whom waved Spanish flags.

All the speakers railed against immigration and most called for a new "Reconquista", a reference to the Medieval re-conquest of Muslim-controlled parts of the Iberian Peninsula by Christian kingdoms.

Earlier, former Estonian Finance Minister Martin Helme kicked off the rally following a video message by Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. His speech excoriating what he called "leftists" was interrupted by a topless activist from feminist group Femen chanting "Not one step back against fascism" in Spanish before she was ejected.

Other themes included frequent right-wing targets such as "wokism" - a term used pejoratively by some to describe left-leaning political views on race, gender and sexuality - migrant rescue NGOs, European Commission's Ursula von der Leyen and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, whose names were met with loud jeers.

Patriots was formed after the May 2024 European election and consists of 86 MEPs from 14 countries, representing a combined 19 million votes. Madrid was chosen as venue for their first official summit so that Patriots' president Santiago Abascal, who leads Spain's Vox party, could host.

Spain's ruling Socialist Party said in a statement it rejected what it described as a "coven of ultras", adding: "They won't succeed in making their black-and-white world view prevail in this country".

Vox has steadily gained ground in several polls over the past months. According to the Centre for Sociological Studies (CIS), it garners the strongest support among young men, members of the military and law enforcement.

Despite Patriots' stated goal of unifying Europe's nationalist conservatives, some of the EU's most influential parties in that camp - such as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy, Alternative for Germany and Poland's Law and Justice - have refused to join.

Activist Elliott builds significant stake in BP

Activist investor Elliott Investment Management has built a significant stake in oil major BP, Bloomberg News reported on Saturday, citing sources.

Elliott is seeking to boost shareholder value by urging BP to consider transformative measures, the report said. It did not provide the exact size of the stake.

Elliott declined to comment on the report. BP did not immediately respond comment outside regular business hours.

The activist investor sees BP as undervalued. BP has a market capitalization of about 69 billion pounds ($85.62 billion), according to LSEG data.

Earlier this week, BP said it plans to sell a refining site in Germany as the company's chief pushes on with plans to cut company costs by at least $2 billion by the end of 2026.

USAID Funded Huge 'News' Platform, Extended 'Censorship Industrial Complex' To Billions Worldwide

Elon Musk summed up the whole f**king farce succinctly:

We wonder how the American taxpayer feels about their hard-earned cash being taken away from them and used for this purpose...

*  *  *

In addition to propping up far-left corporate media outlets like Politico and the BBC with taxpayer funds, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has funneled half a billion dollars to a secretive non-governmental organization operating a global news propaganda matrix.

WikiLeaks published the bombshell report in the overnight hours that shows the massive taxpayer-funded state propaganda network - operating as a shady NGO - called "Internews Network":

USAID has pushed nearly half a billion dollars ($472.6m) through a secretive US government financed NGO, "Internews Network" (IN), which has "worked with" 4,291 media outlets, producing in one year 4,799 hours of broadcasts reaching up to 778 million people and "training" over 9000 journalists (2023 figures). IN has also supported social media censorship initiatives.

The operation claims "offices" in over 30 countries, including main offices in US, London, Paris and regional HQs in Kiev, Bangkok and Nairobi. It is headed up by Jeanne Bourgault, who pays herself $451k a year. Bourgault worked out of the US embassy in Moscow during the early 1990s, where she was in charge of a $250m budget, and in other revolts or conflicts at critical times, before formally rotating out of six years at USAID to IN.

Bourgault's IN bio and those of its other key people and board members have been recently scrubbed from its website but remain accessible at http://archive.org. Records show the board being co-chaired by Democrat securocrat Richard J. Kessler and Simone Otus Coxe, wife of NVIDIA billionaire Trench Coxe, both major Democratic donors. In 2023, supported by Hillary Clinton, Bourgault launched a $10m IN fund at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). The IN page showing a picture of Bourgault at the CGI has also been deleted.

IN has at least six captive subsidiaries under unrelated names including one based out of the Cayman Islands. Since 2008, when electronic records begin, more than 95% of IN's budget has been supplied by the US government (thread follows).

Not suspicious at all!

IN's funding has doubled since Trump's first-term victory, as the Deep State poured billions into combating so-called misinformation and disinformation targeting conservative media worldwide—all under the guise of "saving democracy."

IN's complex funding graph.

The bio for IN CEO Jeanne Bourgault shows past jobs at Wired, Guardian, and other corporate media outlets.

Not surprising.

Speaking at the globalist Davos event last year, IN's CEO argued that global advertisers should prioritize spending ad dollars on "good news." In other words, this would pressure companies to spend exclusively on far-left corporate media outlets while ensuring they slash ad spending on alternative media websites that do not promote state propaganda.

American taxpayers funded the global censorship matrix that has lied about wars, covid origins, vaccines, and go down the list...

Wikileaks shows the moment in time when IN "lost its way"... And you'll never guess how.

IN's media matrix spans worldwide.

Here are the downstream holdings on IN via public records forensics data:

"Internews is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to empower local media worldwide to give people the news and information they need, the ability to connect, and the means to make their voices heard," the NGO stated in an IRS 990 filing as its purpose of businesses.

Public records data shows IN has many business purposes worldwide, all in an effort to control a media matrix and ensure only state propaganda is told on the local level.

How does it feel to know that your tax dollars are funding a state propaganda media matrix around the world?

Newsom Approves $50 Million To Help Migrants, Boost California's Legal Defense

by Aldgra Fredly via The Epoch Times,

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed two bills on Friday that would set aside a combined $50 million to protect immigrants and defend the state from potential legal actions by the Trump administration.

One of the bills allocates $25 million to nonprofit organizations that offer legal immigration services to people “at risk of detention, deportation, eviction, wage theft, intimate partner violence, and other actions that put their safety at risk” due to federal actions.

In his signing statement, Newsom said the bill will help to protect the civil rights of California’s “most vulnerable residents,” including people with disabilities, homeless people, victims of human trafficking and wage theft, as well as immigrants.

The governor made clear that the allocated funding would not be used to protect immigrants convicted of serious or violent felonies. Newsom also called on state lawmakers to pass subsequent legislation if further clarification on this is necessary.

The second bill sets aside $25 million for the state Department of Justice to push back against federal policy “that adversely impact the state, its taxpayers, and residents” through litigation.

The bills were passed by state lawmakers on Feb. 3. California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-District 29) has raised concerns over President Donald Trump’s executive actions targeting various federal agencies, as well as the administration’s recent funding freeze—which he said has affected critical resources for the community.

“Right now, Californians are being threatened by an out-of-control administration in Washington that doesn’t care about the Constitution and thinks there are no limits to its power,” Rivas told the assembly on Feb. 3.

“We must ensure that our residents receive the federal services and benefits that they have contributed to and that they deserve.”

California joined a coalition of attorneys general from 22 states and the District of Columbia in filing an emergency motion on Feb. 7 to ask a federal judge to enforce a restraining order blocking the Trump administration’s freeze on federal financial assistance.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued a memo on Jan. 27 directing federal agencies to suspend the distribution of grants, loans, and other financial assistance while the programs were being reviewed to ensure they aligned with the president’s policy priorities.

California has also moved to protect immigrants amid the Trump administration’s recent crackdown on illegal immigration. Since taking office on Jan. 20, Trump has directed the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to carry out enforcement actions in various major U.S. cities, resulting in the arrest of 956 people within a day on Jan. 27.

Newsom’s Meeting With Trump

Newsom signed the two bills just a day after returning from Washington where he met with Trump and a bipartisan group of lawmakers to secure federal disaster aid.

His office described the meeting with the president as “very productive,” with Newsom emphasizing the critical need for disaster aid for people affected by the wildfires that hit parts of California last month.

“We’re working across the aisle, as we always have, to ensure survivors have the resources and support they need,” Newsom said in a statement on Feb. 5.

“Thank you President Trump for coming to our communities to see this first hand, and meeting with me today to continue our joint efforts to support people impacted.”

The governor expressed his appreciation for the Trump Administration’s early collaboration and specifically thanked EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin for his agency’s swift action,” including the deployment of 1,000 individuals to aid with debris removal.

Newsom signed a $2.5 billion package for fire relief into law last month to help fund the state’s disaster response including evacuations, sheltering survivors, and removing household hazardous waste. His administration has said they expect the federal government to reimburse the state.
