FBI probes claim NY robbed Long Island public hospital of crucial funds: chairman

The FBI is investigating bombshell allegations of a scheme by top Long Island and New York officials to shut down Nassau University Medical Center, the public hospital’s chairman told The Post on Monday.

NUMC chief Matthew Bruderman revealed he is “cooperating” with the agency, as well as the Department of Justice, in a probe of his claims that the hospital was robbed of more than $1 billion over decades to ensure its failure.

Bruderman said he believes the officials’ ultimate goal was to financially strangle the public hospital, paving the way for state and local leaders to shut it down, take over the land currently owned by the public-benefit corporation that runs it and have it redeveloped for profit.

“It is a fact that New York state did not pay their share of the money owed” to keep NUMC running, said Bruderman, who receives no salary in his post and recently sued the state over his allegations.

“And now I’m going to prove it,’’ the chairman said just days after Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman met with FBI Director Kash Patel on Long Island.

“I have every bank account, document, transfer, everything,” he said.

Patel’s meeting with Blakeman occurred after the FBI chief received a letter from Bruderman and Missouri Rep. Eric Burlison, who sits on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, the CEO said.

The letter urged Patel and US Attorney General Pam Bondi to open an investigation into “what appears to be a large financial scheme, uncovered by hospital leadership.’’

At the center of the alleged scheme is a little-known federal program called the Disproportionate Share Hospital Fund — meant to help keep afloat struggling hospitals such as NUMC, which treat large numbers of low-income patients on Medicaid and Medicare.

Under the program, the federal government agrees to give these hospitals tens of millions of dollars in funding as long as their state matches the investment.

Bruderman came on board at NUMC in 2022, when it was facing a $180 million deficit.

He said he started digging through the books to find out why the hospital was struggling as badly as it was but that the math didn’t add up.

Bruderman, who has over 30 years of experience as a financial expert, claims to have discovered that past hospital leadership would secretly “borrow” what was supposed to be the state’s share of money from a Cayman Islands-based offshore account for the medical center’s legal fees for various lawsuits.

He said previous hospital leadership would have to have been colluding with state and past county officials to pull this off.

Hospital officials would move this money into NUMC’s general fund temporarily, just long enough to show the feds that the state’s portion had been “paid” — which would unlock the federal government’s share, Bruderman said.

Then once the federal money hit the account, the hospital would quietly move the state’s portion back offshore — leaving only the feds’ contribution behind — and meaning the state hasn’t actually paid its share in years, he said.

“This is corruption that is both broad and deep within our State’s government. This wasn’t a clerical oversight, a bookkeeping mistake or incompetence,” Bruderman said in the letter to Patel and Bondi.

“What we’ve uncovered was nefarious, intentional and the State covered it up for years to starve this hospital and the people it serves of resources.”

Bruderman told The Post, “When I brought what I found to Gov. Hochul’s office, I thought I was going to get a medal.”

Instead, he said, he has received push back, ridicule and a “complete shut-out” of communication with her office since.

Gordon Tepper, Hochul’s Long Island press secretary, denied the claims by Bruderman.

“The leadership at NUMC continues to waste time and resources on a bizarre public relations campaign,” Tepper told The Post. “The state remains focused on what really matters — patient care and the fiscal health of the hospital.”

Bruderman, who was appointed to the hospital by Blakeman, has since helped the hospital do a complete 180 financially.

NUMC is on track to profit roughly $11 million this year after being in the hole nearly $200 million just two years prior, according to the public corporation that runs it, NuHealth.

“My goal is to protect this hospital, and I will do everything in my power and not stop until this hospital is protected,” Bruderman said.

The FBI declined to comment, while the AG’s office didn’t respond to The Post’s request for comment.

YouTube star needs probe on Hamas propaganda on Gaza kids, antisemitism group tells AG

YouTube’s top toddler whisperer, Ms. Rachel, should be investigated over whether she’s being paid to spread Hamas-aligned propaganda for her posts about the deaths of kids in Gaza, a major antisemitism group tells Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Ms. Rachel, real name Rachel Griffin Accurso, has become the modern equivalent of Mister Rogers, educating and entertaining millions of young kids with her “Songs for Littles” streaming shows — which have been viewed more than 10 billion times.

But the Jewish civil rights watchdog group StopAntisemitism said Ms. Rachel is not so sweet.

YouTube star Ms. Rachel should be investigated as a foreign agent of Hamas for her posts about children in Gaza, according to the watchdog group StopAntisemitism.Netflix

StopAntisemitism takes issue with multiple posts Ms. Rachel made about the condition of children in the Gaza Strip during the war, alleging that the content is either debunked or disputed by Israel.

The group says the posts are anti-Israel and are meant to inspire pro-Hamas sympathies among young kids.

“Given the vast sums of foreign funds that have been directed toward propagandizing our young people on college campuses, we suspect there is a similar dynamic in the online influencer space,” StopAntisemitism director Liora Rez said in a letter sent Monday to Bondi.

“We urge you and your office to investigate whether or not Ms. Rachel is being remunerated to disseminate Hamas-aligned propaganda to her millions of followers, as this may violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA),” Rez said.

In the letter to Bondi, the group said Ms. Rachel, who once focused solely on catering to children has been “incorporating Hamas-like propagated images and stories into her content.”

“Her posts have largely ignored the suffering of Israeli victims, hostages, and Jewish children, while she consistently amplifies misinformation from Hamas and other anti-Israel sources,” Rez told Bondi, in the letter obtained by The Post.

The posts cited by StopAntisemitism were made to Ms. Rachel’s Instagram account, where she has 2.5 million followers, and generally gears her content toward adults. Many appear to involve widely shared images and stories that have been covered heavily in the media.

Among the objectionable content, according to the group, are viral images of a child with protruding limbs depicting starvation in the enclave. StopAntisemitism claimed those images were debunked, with the child not suffering starvation, but instead suffering from cystic fibrosis.

Fadi al-Zant, the child in question, however, was suffering from both cystic fibrosis and starvation, his mother told the Washington Post. He became a widely shared symbol for what the UN says was a humanitarian crisis in Gaza before the cease-fire.

StopAntisemitism also objected to Ms. Rachel sharing the death toll provided by the Hamas-run Ministry of Health, which does not differentiate between terrorists and civilians.

StopAntisemitism alleges that the estimates that nearly 15,000 children have died in the war was debunked, accusing the children’s star of spreading misinformation.

Israel disputes the figure, but the UN has reported similar death tolls, as well.

StopAntisemitism also condemned Ms Rachel for echoing reports of children dying from hypothermia in Gaza over the winter, claiming she used pictures from Wikipedia and that Gaza was nowhere near as cold.

Various reports in international media, however, document the deaths of many children in Gaza from December through February due to hypothermia, where freezing mornings hit refugee tents hard in the ruined enclave.

StopAntisemitism ultimately accused Ms. Rachel of perpetuating Hamas’ claims of Israel bombing Gaza indiscriminately and violating the Geneva Convention by halting aid, the latter of which led the International Criminal Court to put out an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for crimes against humanity.

The Israeli military maintains that it takes all necessary precautions to minimize civilian deaths when carrying out airstrikes in Gaza.

Ms Rachel, 42, a teacher who resides in the Upper West Side and whose husband is Broadway music director and composer Aron Accurso, declined to comment after The Post shared StopAntisemitism’s letter to Bondi.

But she previously said she loves all children, after coming under withering criticism for launching a fundraiser for children living in war-zones, including Gaza.

She said tearfully that she had been subjected to bullying.

“I care deeply for all children. Palestinian children, Israeli children, children in the US – Muslim, Jewish, Christian children – all children, in every country. Not one is excluded,” she said in an Instagram post last May.

“I think part of why people respond to the show is they feel that care — I see every child as I see my own. I love every neighbor. Any child suffering is in my heart. To do a fundraiser for children who are currently starving – who have no food or water – who are being killed — is human.”

She also sang a song for children in Israel and Gaza.

“This is a prayer for children in Gaza,” she sings, “This is a prayer for children in Israel. This is a prayer for all the children: please stop hurting them. This is a prayer for all the civilians. This is a prayer for all the hostages. This is a prayer for all the innocent. Please stop hurting them.”

The Post asked StopAntisemitism if it had any evidence to indicate that Ms. Rachel was being paid to spread Hamas propaganda, and not just expressing her free speech rights.

“It’s not a secret influencers such as Ms. Rachel often have paid collaborations on social media. That being said, we could not help but notice post 10/7, Ms. Rachel posting a massive barrage of anti-Israel propaganda. This was at the same time as other social media influencers were being paid to post,” Rez said.

“We are merely asking the Attorney General to investigate. While Ms. Rachel is entitled to her opinions and to exercise her free speech rights, there are laws that require those being paid by foreign countries to disclose these things. Foreign agents must register.”

Hyundai Mobis to Use Eco-friendly Aluminum for Main Auto Components

  • The company introduces low-carbon aluminum using solar energy, signing a 15,000 tons contract with EGA.

  • Using low-carbon aluminum is expected to reduce carbon emissions to a quarter of the current level.

  • It has proactively introduced eco-friendly raw materials in response to the full-scale enforcement of the European Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) next year.

  • It plans to secure low-carbon aluminum in the long term in response to the transition to eco-friendly mobility such as EVs.

Hyundai Mobis (KRX 012330) will proactively apply low-carbon aluminum produced using solar power to the manufacturing of main automotive components starting this year. This is part of its concrete action plan for achieving the goal of carbon neutrality by 2045. Aluminum is a key material for the lightweighting of mobility, such as electric vehicles, and Hyundai Mobis plans to strengthen its green supply chain starting from the raw material procurement stage in response to the transition to eco-friendly mobility.

Hyundai Mobis announced on 2 that it has signed a contract with Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), a global aluminum producer, securing 15,000 tons of low-carbon green aluminum. EGA is a world-class aluminum producer headquartered in DubaiUnited Arab Emirates (UAE), and the aluminum Hyundai Mobis has secured this time is low-carbon aluminum produced using solar power.

The 15,000 tons of low-carbon aluminum secured by Hyundai Mobis is the annual amount the company needs, which is worth about 62 billion Korean won. This is more than 20% of the total amount of aluminum the company purchased throughout the last year, which is 67,000 tons in total.

Low-carbon aluminum is called an eco-friendly material because carbon is less emitted during its manufacturing process. It is generally known that about 16.5 tons of carbon is emitted during the manufacturing of refining, smelting, and casting to produce one ton of aluminum. On the other hand, the carbon emissions of green aluminum produced by EGA using solar energy are about 4 tons, which is only a quarter of those of regular aluminum.

Hyundai Mobis plans to proactively respond to environmental regulations of governments around the world by using the green aluminum it introduced this year in the manufacture of main components such as chassis. In particular, as the European Union (EU) will fully enforce the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation from next year, Hyundai Mobis is expected to be able to minimize the impact of the regulation.
