FDNY firefighters forced to remove flag honoring 9/11 heroes as lefty pol questioned ‘political symbol’

Fire Department brass ordered an East Village ladder company to remove its “red line” American flag honoring the squad’s six brothers killed on 9/11 – after a neighborhood resident complained it was “fascist” and a local lefty pol questioned whether it was a “politically charged symbol.”

The shocking order came March 22 after a man claiming he was a staffer for Democratic Manhattan Councilwoman Carlina Rivera confronted firefighters at Ladder Co. 11, sources said.

The man pedaled up to the East 2nd Street firehouse on a bicycle and told firefighters he worked for Rivera and that the councilwoman’s office “complained” to the FDNY three days earlier about the flag – which features a red stripe in tribute of firefighters injured or killed in the line of duty.

He called it a “fascist symbol” and demanded to know why it was still up, sources said.

In a March 19 email to FDNY Intergovernmental Affairs Coordinator Madison Hernandez, Rivera staffer Lisander Rosario said the councilwoman’s office was contacted by the “constituent” twice about the ladder company’s flag and asked if it’s violating department rules.

“[FDNY staff] claimed it was to honor deceased firefighters, however, [the constituent] brought up that they could’ve used an FDNY flag rather than a politically charged symbol,” Rosario wrote.

“It is to both his and our understanding that private political symbols aren’t permitted to be displayed on public vehicles.”

“Can you confirm if there are any violating flags/symbols on Ladder 11?” added the email, which was obtained by The Post.

Hours after the “constituent” left the firehouse, FDNY Deputy Chief Joseph Schiralli visited firefighters there and reluctantly said the flag must come off the fire truck because it violated a department prohibition of “altered” versions of the American flag.

The rule was implemented in 2020 by then-Commissioner Daniel Nigro and then-First Deputy Commissioner Laura Kavanagh during the height of the anti-cop Black Lives Matters protests, sources said.

Schiralli told the firefighters he agreed with them that it’s “ridiculous” to remove the flag, recalled one of the smoke-eaters.

“We’re happy with the outcome of this — but we’re offended it happened in the first place,” a Ladder 1Company 11 firefighter told The Post.William Farrington

The order sparked immediate outrage on social media, with conservative Instagram influencer Rogan O’Handley posting a photo of the flag and saying, “NY firefighters were forced to take down a memorial for those that died on 9/11. What’s happened to NYC?!”

Hours later, now-Commissioner Kavanagh and Chief of Department John Hodgens reversed the decision and allowed the flag back on the truck.

“We’re happy with the outcome of this — but we’re offended it happened in the first place,” said a Ladder 11 firefighter.

“This flag has huge significance for us.”

Ladder Company 11 displays its red line flag next to a memorial placard on the back of its fire truck honoring Lt. Michael Quilty and Firefighters Michael Cammarata, Edward Day, John Hefferman, Richard Kelly Jr. and Matthew Rogan – all of whom were killed responding to the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

“I wish [Rivera’s office] would have come at it like ‘Hey, we want to learn about the flag and what it represents’ before they asked for it to be taken down,’” said another Ladder 11 fireman.

Rivera insisted to The Post that her office never contacted Ladder Co. 11 about the issue, and that the initial complainant was a constituent, not a staffer.

She said her office sent the March 19 email to the FDNY asking whether “political symbols are on display” at the ladder company only after the constituent questioned the flag’s legality in an email to her staff.

“We have heard nothing further from the FDNY and have taken no additional action on this matter,” said Rivera, who added she’s allocated $450,000 in Council discretionary funds to improve the ladder company’s firehouse.

“My relationship with Ladder 11 has always been strong.”

Rivera, a former dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, voted to defund the NYPD by $1 billion in 2020 and also routinely ripped cops that same year during the Black Lives Matters protests.

Email from Councilwoman Carlina Rivera’s office to the FDNY seems to confuse “blue line” flags honoring cops with the “red line” flags honoring FDNY heroes, such as the one at Ladder Company 11.

Some FDNY sources said they believe all the fuss about the flag stemmed over confusion between a red-line flag and a blue-line American flag, which is typically displayed to honor police officers injured or killed in the line of duty.

Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Queens), who chairs the fire and emergency management committee, called the flag-removal debacle a “sanctioned attack on the First Amendment rights of our civil servants.”

“Radicalism and censorship are sadly becoming the norm in American politics,” she said.

Protesters calling for cease-fire in Gaza ambush Easter mass at St. Patrick’s

Protesters calling for a cease-fire in Gaza interrupted a Saturday night Easter Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, chanting “Free, free Palestine” before being removed from the service.

Thousands of pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered in Times Square earlier Saturday before some headed to the Easter Vigil service at St. Patrick’s, where their chants of “Free, free Palestine” could be heard during the second reading of the service.

At least some of the protesters were with Extinction Rebellion NYC’s Palestinian Solidarity group, and carried a flag with an olive tree and the words “SILENCE = DEATH” written across it.

The protesters were quickly taken out of the service moments later, Fox News Digital Reported.

Billions Flood Active ETFs in Hunt for Cheap Developing Stocks

  • Undervalued emerging stocks lure traders back to risky assets
  • Despite small market share, active EM ETFs see big inflows

As investors scour the globe for under-valued stocks, one increasingly popular destination is actively managed exchange-traded funds that focus on emerging markets.

In the $348 billion market for ETFs that invest in developing-nation assets, the holdings of only about 5% of funds are actively managed — rather than pinned directly to an underlying index, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. But those actively managed funds have lured in more than a third of new cash that’s flowed into the asset class over the past year and more than 50% in the past month.

Wrangling over a second wave of DC chipmaking money is already underway

A vigorous debate has already begun about whether the US semiconductor sector will need a second wave of support from Washington in the years ahead—as well as what it might look like.

Intel (INTC) CEO Pat Gelsinger, one big beneficiary of the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act, weighed in on the topic earlier this month as he announced his company's $8.5 billion government grant for a range of new chip projects.

"I don't think CHIPS 1 is the end of what we need to do to rebuild the industry," he said.

He is far from the only one. Commentary is piling up among business officials, Biden cabinet members, think tank roundtables, and on Capitol Hill as the different players signal their interest as well as the elements they might like to see in a potential second round.

Senator Mark Kelly is an Arizona Democrat who helped negotiate the first bill. He first wants to help chipmakers cut red tape as they build new projects. Then he is open to more after that.

He recently told Yahoo Finance "we need to do things that will make our supply chain stronger, so we're going to assess how this is going and we will figure out what else is needed."

The White House unveiled almost $20 billion in new grants and loans Wednesday to support Intel's US chip-making facilities, marking the Biden administration's largest funding announcement yet as it tackles China's dominance of the crucial technology. The chatter comes as the current law is just getting underway. But it's a conversation some say needs to happen soon, with most muscular provisions due to expire in a few short years and Washington not known for moving quickly.

"My view is that if they wait 3 to 5 years before they start talking about it, it's going to be way too late," says Caitlin Legacki. She is a former senior advisor to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and notes that the demand for grants has already far outstripped the $50 billion available.

More than 18 months transpired between when the bill that became the CHIPs and Science Act was first introduced and when President Biden signed it into law. And it was another another year and a half with the law on the books before grants began rolling out in earnest.

Illegal Alien TikToker Who Urged Followers To Invade US Homes Arrested Between Cincinnati , Cleveland

Leonel Moreno, the illegal alien known as the "migrant influencer," who amassed a half million followers on TikTok, was finally arrested by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Friday in Gahanna, Ohio, according to Epoch Times

In a series of short videos on TikTok, Moreno bragged about receiving 'stacks of cash' from American taxpayers and urged other illegal aliens to take advantage of all the free money progressives were handing out. He has thanked "Papa Biden" for the free cash.

"I didn't cross the Rio Grande to work like a slave," Moreno said in a TikTok video in Spanish, adding, "I came to the US to mark my territory."

"You're hurt because I make more than you without much work while you work like slaves, understand?" he said in another video, noting, "That's the difference between you and me. I'm always going to make lots of money without much work, and you're always going to be exploited and miserable and insignificant."

Moreno even encouraged other illegal aliens to invade American homes under squatting laws: "I learned that there is a law that says if a house is not inhabited, then we can take it ... and here in the United States, terrain deformation also applies, and I think that will be my next business: invade abandoned houses."

Thanks to President Biden's disastrous open southern borders, Moreno crossed into the country illegally in early 2022 through Eagle Pass, Texas. He skipped out on his initial check-in with ICE.

In a statement on Friday, The Epoch Times quoted ICE officials who said Moreno was caught in the suburban Columbus area of Gahanna.

"Leonel Moreno is an unlawfully present citizen of Venezuela, who illegally entered the country April 23, 2022.

"Moreno was placed into the ATD [Alternatives to Detention] program by Border Patrol and was told to report to Enforcement and Removal Operations office within 60 days of arriving at his destination."

"Moreno did not report as required. On March 29, 2024, Moreno was arrested in Gahanna, Ohio, by officers with ERO Detroit's Columbus office and is currently detained pending further immigration proceedings."

Most Americans are open to legal immigration and importing some of the best and brightest to further the progress of this nation. However, the Biden administration and allied taxpayer-funded NGOs are importing some of the dumbest criminals the world has to offer ahead of the elections.
