Illinois to issue shelter in place order

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) will issue a “shelter in place” order Friday evening, sources told the Chicago Tribune.
The order would take place Saturday, requiring all 12.7 million residents to stay home with few exceptions.
Such an action would come after California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) ordered on Thursday all 40 million state residents to stay home. On Friday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) requested all nonessential workers to stay home.
Residents will be able to go to grocery stores, gas stations and pharmacies, and they will also be able to take walks, according to the Tribune. All local roads, including the interstate highways and tollways, will remain open to traffic as well.
Pritzker is expected to make the announcement at a press conference at 3 p.m. Central, along with Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D).
