AOC sidesteps question about closure of NYC high school to house migrants: ‘not in my district’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday appeared to have little interest in discussing the controversial shutdown of a Brooklyn high school to temporarily house migrants because the incident didn’t happen in her constituent area.

“It’s not in my district,” Ocasio-Cortez told Fox Business reporter Hillary Vaughn when asked if she was OK with thousands of James Madison High School students being forced to stay home this week so migrants could camp out in their school’s gym.

“I think it’s very clear here that what’s most important is that we identify a facility that’s appropriate for these folks,” the New York Democrat, a member of the far-left “Squad of congressional lawmakers, eventually conceded.

“I don’t anticipate this being a long-term solution, it shouldn’t be a long-term solution,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

Nearly 2,000 migrants were brought to the Brooklyn school’s gym Tuesday afternoon over concerns from local officials that tents erected for them at Floyd Bennett Field would collapse due to rain and winds from a strong storm.

The migrants were reportedly bussed back to the tents by 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, but James Madison’s 3,700 students were still forced to learn remotely that day.

While Ocasio-Cortez is correct that neither Floyd Bennet Field nor James Madison High School are within New York’s 14th Congressional District, which she has represented since 2019, social media users pointed out that the progressive pol frequently amplifies issues far more geographically removed from her Bronx-Queens territory.

“Other things not on AOC’s district: – Palestine – Israel – Ukraine,” an X user noted.

“Didn’t she famously pose at our Texas border during Trump’s presidency? My how times have changed,” read another tweet from an incredulous X user.

“Kennedy Saves the World” podcast host Kennedy argued that the migrant crisis stems from immigration policies promoted by the likes of Ocasio-Cortez and that she should take “ownership” of the resulting problems.

“Wow, what a non-answer!” she said in response to Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks during an interview with Fox Business.

“Yeah, it’s not my district, you guys, so I don’t really have to worry about anything,” Kennedy added.

“It’s her policies and that’s the problem, is people like AOC aren’t taking ownership of their philosophy, which is bankrupting cities across the country and people in New York, people in Chicago never really had to think about the immigration crisis, because to them it was theoretical. Well, now it’s actual.”
