Stephen Colbert, Mindy Kaling and other stars are slated to take part in a fundraising event Thursday for Biden's re-election effort vs. Trump
President Joe Biden's re-election campaign plans to hold a big fundraising event Thursday featuring major figures from the entertainment industry, along with former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
The "Evening with Presidents" event is billed as featuring Biden, Clinton and Obama in conversation with Stephen Colbert, the host of CBS's (PARA) "The Late Show."
Tickets have been going for between $225 and $500,000, according to a Biden Victory Fund website.
Actress and producer Mindy Kaling is expected to host the event at New York's Radio City Music Hall, according to an NBC News report.
Other special guests from the entertainment industry are expected to include Queen Latifah, Ben Platt and Lizzo, who faces a lawsuit over claims of sexual harassment but denies those allegations.
The Biden campaign currently has a cash advantage over the 2024 campaign of former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, although Trump continues to lead in polls of key battleground states.
Trump scored a legal win Monday as a New York appeals court agreed to hold off collection of his $454 million civil fraud judgment if he puts up $175 million within 10 days. In addition, shares of Digital World Acquisition Corp. (DWAC) were soaring Monday after the blank-check company's merger with Trump's social-media company officially closed.
The entertainment industry is known for supporting Biden and other Democratic politicians. One example is the $2 million that DreamWorks Animation co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg has given to a super PAC backing Biden's campaign. Actors known for playing presidents also took part in a video with Biden ahead of his State of the Union address earlier this month, giving him advice before his speech.
