Write it and forget it at the annual Good Riddance Day event in Times Square on Saturday.
The free event, hosted by actor Jonathan Bennett, invites all to write down their bad memories from 2024 on a chalkboard then wipe them away to literally and symbolically erase the past. It all kicks off at 12 p.m. and those wanting to attend are asked to RSVP online.
For those who can’t make it to the chalkboard, you can submit your forgettable memories online to be displayed on a billboard. After a brief display on the One Times Square building you can watch your message disappear.
The annual Good Riddance Day celebration in Times Square is based on a Latin American tradition in which New Year’s revelers would stuff dolls with objects representing bad memories and set them on fire.
After getting rid of your unwanted memories of the old year, you can share your hopes for the new year by leaving a message on the New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall. Wishes will rain down in the form of confetti in Times Square on New Year’s Day.
