Conor McGregor is taking his political aspirations to another level, announcing on social media Thursday that he will be running for president in Ireland just days after visiting the White House.
In a post on Instagram, McGregor, 36, called for elections to take place by Nov. 11 of this year and made his pitch to Irish voters on immigration and his opposition to the EU migration pact.
“Who else will stand up to Government and oppose this bill?” he wrote in the lengthy post. “Any other Presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them.
“I will!”
McGregor’s political ambitions are not new, and during his visit to Washington, D.C., on St. Patrick’s Day, the MMA fighter railed against Ireland’s government and immigration in the European nation, claiming there was an “illegal immigration racket running ravage” in the country.

“We consider America our big sibling,” McGregor said during a stop inside the press briefing room on Monday. “We wish to be taken care of by the big bro. You know, the United States should look after its little bro.”
While McGregor is opposed to the EU migration pact, he wrote in his announcement that he would leave it up to the people of Ireland to vote on the bill in a referendum.
He called it the “people of Ireland’s choice” and added, “That is a true democracy” while saying that he would be open to debate the bill and would be “curious” to hear government officials who favored the pact.

“This is the future of Ireland with me as President,” McGregor wrote. “All citizens of Ireland to have a voice and a choice on their future!”
Ireland’s government officials were not thrilled with McGregor’s visit to D.C., and the country’s prime minister, Micheál Martin, labeled the fighter’s words “wrong, and do not reflect the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, or the views of the people of Ireland.”
