Sanctuary Mass. releases illegal migrants accused of raping kids, Homan announces major sweep

The defiant sanctuary state of Massachusetts recently dumped several illegal migrants accused of raping kids back into the community while refusing to hold them for ICE — and the Trump administration is now targeting the area for mass deportation raids.

Since 2017, controversial state policies have barred Massachusetts authorities from holding illegal-migrant accused criminals in local jails solely based on ICE detainers.

The situation prompted President Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, to set his sights on the region. He announced Monday that federal immigration agents conducted a raid there last week that resulted in the arrests of 270 illegal migrants, most of whom he described as “significant criminals.”

There are several recent disturbing examples of illegal-migrant alleged rapists being freed on extremely low bail amounts set by Massachusetts courts, according to CBS News.

Once the suspects make bail, local cops can’t hold the alleged sickos on just their illegal-immigration status, so unless ICE agents get to the jail fast, the accused criminals are set free.

Worcester County Sheriff Lewis Evangelidis decried the flawed process.

“It’s very frustrating for me to know I might have a drug trafficker or a violent offender getting bailed out of here, and I call ICE, and they’re like, ‘We’re busy with a couple situations, we can’t get there for a few hours.’ I can’t hold them,” Evangelidis said.

Evangelidis’ jail recently held two inmates charged with child rape who were given measly $500 bail amounts in the past six months.

“Most people would not think that’s an appropriate bail,” Evangelidis said.

But ICE has had some success in tracking down the suspects.

In February, the agency arrested Guatemalan citizen Jose Fernando-Perez, 49, in Farmington, Mass., on immigration raps. He had been previously charged with three counts of raping a child by force and released more than two years earlier after posting his $7,500 bail amount.

ICE also hunted down Guatemalan national Stivenson Omar Perez-Ajtzalan, 19, in January. It’s unclear when he was charged with aggravated child rape and released on a $7,500 bond amount with a GPS monitor.

That same month, ICE also collared Honduran national Juan Alberto Rodezno-Marin, who was charged with indecent assault and battery on a person above the age of 14 and assault to rape and released without bail on a GPS monitor in December, according to CBS.

Evangelidis said his jail has recently seen a massive increase in requested ICE detainers.

Border czar Tom Homan on Monday announced ICE arrested 270 illegal migrants last week, while slamming local leaders for allowing accused criminal illegal migrants to go free.AP

“We’ve seen the detainers triple in the last three years. We were in the 30s a couple years ago. We exceeded 100 in 2024,” the sheriff said.

“To me, that means there are more people illegally in the commonwealth committing crimes,” he said.

Homan last month said he counted “nine child rapists that were in jail in Massachusetts” and released before being apprehended by ICE on illegal-immigration raps.

Of the group of 270 illegal migrants rounded up in the area last week, there were “6 foreign fugitives, including four who were wanted for murder or to serve a criminal sentence for murder, along with drug traffickers, child sexual predators and numerous other violent public safety threats,” Homan said in an X post Monday.

Homan took swipes at both Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healy and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, saying they “should be ashamed of supporting sanctuary policies” for allowing illegal migrant accused criminals back out onto the streets to continue allegedly terrorizing the community.

“They would rather release these animals back into the community rather than honor ICE detainers or notify ICE when they are scheduled to be released,” Homan wrote.

“Releasing public safety threats back into the public, rather than working with ICE at the jails, puts the public at great risk,” he said.
