HHS eases regulations on EHR vendors

HHS’ assistant secretary for technology policy/ONC is easing testing requirements on EHR companies.

ONC will not enforce a mandate that “health IT developers successfully test the real world use of their technology for interoperability in the type of setting in which such technology would be marketed,” according to a June 30 news release. The move is part of the Trump administration’s deregulation push across the government.

The EHR vendors are no longer required to submit annual real-world testing plans and will not be penalized if they don’t. The new rules will remain in effect until Dec. 31, 2026, or until HHS completes a deregulatory action to revise the existing language.
