Israel to open Rafah crossing after it completes search op

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced on Sunday it would reopen Gaza's ‍border crossing ‍with Egypt after the Israeli military completes an operation aimed at finding the body of the last Israeli hostage in the enclave.

The Rafah crossing will be reopened "for pedestrian passage only, subject to a full Israeli inspection mechanism" once the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) exhausts "all of the intelligence that has been gathered in the effort to locate and return the fallen hostage, Master-Sgt. Ran Gvili."

Axios reporter Barak Ravid, citing an unnamed US official, said on X the limited reopening is likely to take place "towards the end of the week."
