Mamdani Admits Hates Capitalism,. Allied With Socialist Operative Tied To Marxist Terror Group

Americans were stunned last week when foreign-born, self-proclaimed socialist Zohran Mamdani used CNN as a platform to denounce capitalism—the very system that transformed this country from frontier towns into a global superpower. Capitalism has lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty, built a middle class, and fueled rapid technological innovation—outcomes impossible under socialist regimes, as evidenced by an imploding Europe adopting welfare-state models or failed communist states like Cuba. Yet Mamdani chose to vilify it on national television. His profoundly anti-American rhetoric didn't emerge out of nowhere—one has to wonder whether it's rooted in foreign influence or ideology imported from an adversary.

And this.

A recent New York Post opinion piece penned by One City Rising co-founder and strategist Jason Curtis Anderson exposed a troubling connection behind Mamdani's rise: one of his key backers worked for the NYC Campaign Finance Board and is a longtime socialist operative with alleged ties to extremist and terror-linked groups.

David Duhalde's position at the New York City Campaign Finance Board gave him unfettered access to confidential information about political candidates and the ability to influence campaign compliance. He openly backed Democratic Socialist (DSA) Assemblyman Mamdani, whose rise ultimately helped secure victory in last week's Democratic mayoral primary against former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Duhalde lists himself as a NYC Campaign Finance Board employee on LinkedIn.

Within that timeframe...

Note: Duhalde, who identified himself in a 2020 article as the deputy director of the DSA...

... tweeted his support for Zohran's mayoral run on October 23, 2024, but previous tweets show that their work relationship dates back to at least 2022. After the NYPost article went live, Duhalde deleted his Facebook and Instagram.

Duhalde also sits on DSA's International Committee, which has ties to socialist regimes in Venezuela and Cuba and has partnered with Friends of Socialist China and The People's Forum.

In 2024, Duhalde wrote"A history of the late 2000s youth section of the Democratic Socialists of America and how they used lessons from Mao and contemporary labor to reevaluate their conditions and build a winning strategy."

Further raising concerns, Duhalde's last-known romantic partner, Michelle Munjanattu, is a member of Samidoun, a front group for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)—a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, according to Anderson.

Love is in the air (NYPost)

Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, or "Samidoun," was recently labeled a terrorist entity by Canada and sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury as a "sham charity that serves as an international fundraiser for PFLP."

Using publicly available data, PFLP has a troubling connection to Bank Saderat Iran—a U.S.-sanctioned financial institution designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist in September 2006 under Executive Order 13224 for financing terrorism, including support to groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the PFLP itself.

The PFLP's "Resistance Until Victory" manifesto declares its identity as a Marxist-Leninist organization, calling for the destruction of the Israeli state and advocating for the use of the revolutionary socialist movement to overthrow capitalism.

Follow the money...

Mamdani's anti-American rhetoric shouldn't come as a surprise—it's not just a byproduct of progressive academia but also stems from the far-left international groups he's tied to, either directly or indirectly. Whether through members of his political team or the DSA, the connections to foreign adversaries and very questionable groups have raised alarm bells.

Canada Scraps Digital Service Tax On U.S. Tech Giants To Revive Trade Talks

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne wrote on X overnight that Canada has withdrawn its controversial Digital Services Tax (DST) on Silicon Valley tech giants, such as Alphabet and Meta, in order to restart stalled trade negotiations with the Trump administration. It's another win for President Trump, as his 'Art of the Deal' tactics continue to bring far-left progressive countries back in line with his 'America First' agenda.

"Canada is engaged in complex negotiations on a new economic and security partnership with the U.S.," Champagne wrote on X late Sunday.

He continued, "Rescinding the DST will allow the negotiations to make vital progress and reinforce our work to create jobs and build prosperity for all Canadians."

Canada's move follows President Trump's Friday afternoon announcement calling for all trade discussions with the country to be terminated. He also threatened to impose new tariffs within a week.

Also last Friday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer would investigate the tax to "determine the amount of harm to the U.S. companies and the U.S. economy in general."

The stakes are high for Canada, as three-quarters of its exports are shipped to the U.S.—including energy products, other commodities, and automobiles—so tariffs would be devastating to the local economy.

Canada has taken the common-sense approach of returning to the negotiating table with Trump to work out a trade deal that benefits everyone.

UBS analyst Jason Cheng commented overnight on the developments:

Canada has withdrawn its digital services tax on technology companies in a move to restart trade talks with the U.S. This came after the pause in talks last Friday when U.S. President Donald Trump called an end to discussions with Canada, in retaliation for the digital tax. USDCAD is trading lower post the headline.

Daniel BĂ©land, a political science professor at McGill University in Montreal, told AP News that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's retreat was a "clear victory" for Trump.

"President Trump forced PM Carney to do exactly what big tech wanted. U.S. tech executive will be very happy with this outcome," Béland said.

Moments ago, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick thanked Canada for removing the DST tax.

Arsonists Set Wildfire In Northern Idaho, Open Fire On Firefighters, Police In Ambush

Live Coverage: Arsonist-Led Ambush on First Responders in Idaho

*   *   *

Breaking from Fox News:

Two killed after suspect starts shooting at firefighters responding to a wildfire near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The suspect has not been caught.

*   *   *

Ever wonder where some of these wildfires start?

Spoiler alert: it's not the so-called "climate crisis" narrative pushed by far-left Democrats to justify a heist of the US Treasury through climate policies like the Inflation Reduction Act (Green New Deal). In some cases, it's arson—sometimes even eco-terrorism.

Shocking news just broke that multiple firefighters and officers were shot in an ambush at the Canfield Mountain Natural Area in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

According to North Idoha News, at 1:50 pm local time, multiple firefighters and law enforcement officers were shot in what has been described as a "planned ambush" while responding to a wildfire on Canfield Mountain, believed to have been intentionally set to lure first responders.

"At least one Life Flight helicopter remains on standby, while all others have been released," the local media outlet reported on Facebook, adding, "Multiple firefighters were shot, and at least one has been transported with life-threatening injuries, though officials confirm the individual was conscious and alert during transport."

Idaho scanner audio: "EVERYONE IS SHOT UP HERE."

Here's a breakdown of what's occurred so far:

  • Shots fired at approx. 2:00 pm

  • Idaho Tribune: 9 firefighters and 2 cops shot

  • 2 Deaths

  • Fire believed to have been set as a trap

  • At least one firefighter transported with life-threatening injuries, but conscious and alert

  • FBI, US Marshals on scene

  • Additional victims may still be on the hillside

  • One Life Flight helicopter remains; others released

  • Assistance from Spokane and beyond has arrived

  • Two armed suspects may still be at large

  • People in the Canfield, Little North Fork, or Bumblebee drainage areas should move to safety immediately

  • Local Sheriff: "We are actively taking sniper fire as we speak."

  • Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem briefed on active shooter standoff in Idaho

Brazil strikes deal with Musk’s Starlink to curb criminal use in the Amazon rainforest

Brazil’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday a deal with Elon Musk’s Starlink to curb the use of its services in illegal mining and other criminal activities in the Amazon.

Starlink’s lightweight, high-speed internet system has rapidly spread across the Amazon, a region that for decades struggled with slow and unreliable connectivity. But the service has also been adopted by criminal organizations, which have used it to coordinate logistics, make payments and receive alerts about police raids.

It’s the first agreement of its kind aimed at curbing such use following years of pressure from Brazilian authorities.

Starlink, a division of Musk’s SpaceX, will begin requiring identification and proof of residence from all new users in Brazil’s Amazon region starting in January. The company will also provide Brazilian authorities with user registration and geolocation data for internet units located in areas under investigation.

If a terminal is confirmed to be used for illegal activity, Starlink has committed to blocking the service. The deal is for two years and can be renewed.

Illegal gold mining has contaminated hundreds of miles of Amazon rivers with mercury and disrupted the traditional lives of several Indigenous tribes, including the Yanomami. Starlink, which first arrived in the region in 2022, has enabled criminal groups to manage mining operations in remote areas, where logistics are complex and equipment and fuel must be transported by small plane or boat.

“The use of satellite internet has transformed the logistics of illegal mining. This new reality demands a proportional legal response. With the agreement, connectivity in remote areas also becomes a tool for environmental responsibility and respect for sovereignty,” federal prosecutor AndrĂ© Porreca said in a statement.

Illegal gold miners and loggers have always had some form of communication, mainly via radio, to evade law enforcement. Starlink, with its fast and mobile internet, has significantly enhanced that capability, Hugo Loss, operations coordinator for Brazil’s environmental agency, told The Associated Press in a phone interview.

“They’ve been able to transmit in real time the locations of enforcement teams, allowing them to anticipate our arrival, which seriously compromises the safety of our personnel and undermines the effectiveness of operations,” Loss said. “Cutting the signal in mining areas, especially on Indigenous lands and in protected areas, is essential because internet access in these locations serves only criminal purposes.”

Jair Schmitt, head of environmental protection for the agency, said what’s also needed is tighter regulation on the sale and use of such equipment.

The AP emailed James Gleeson, SpaceX’s vice president of communications, with questions about the deal, but didn’t immediately receive a response.

Brazil's Bolsonaro rallies thousands of supporters to protest his trial on alleged plot to overturn election

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Sunday attended a public demonstration in Sao Paulo to protest against his ongoing Supreme Court trial in the South American country.

A couple of thousand people gathered on Paulista Avenue, one of the city’s main locations, in a demonstration that Bolsonaro, before the event, called “an act for freedom, for justice.”

Bolsonaro and 33 allies are facing trial over an alleged plot to overturn the 2022 presidential election results and remain in power.

They were charged with five counts related to the plan.

The former president has denied the allegations and claims that he’s the target of political persecution.

He could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted.

“Bolsonaro, come back!” protesters chanted, but the former president is barred from running for office until 2030.

Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court ruled last year that he abused his political power and made baseless claims about the country’s electronic voting system.

'Surprise excise tax sends the clean energy industry into panic '

'Snuck into the Senate budget bill, the provision would place onerous reporting requirements on new renewable projects — or tax them.'

Even Alex Epstein, the fossil fuel advocate who has helped GOP lawmakers “enormously” with energy provisions of the reconciliation bill, hates the excise tax on new renewables projects that was snuck into the bill’s latest draft.

Released just before midnight on Friday, the new draft is even worse for the renewables sector than the previous House bill, which was widely criticized. It would sharply phase out existing tax credits for both wind and solar power by the end of 2027, earlier than precious drafts.

But more alarming: It would impose an excise tax on certain wind and solar projects placed into service after that date, whose construction began after June 16 of this year. To avoid the tax, companies would have to source a specified number of components from countries that aren’t on the U.S. list of prohibited foreign entities, which includes China. And they would have to prove it via fulfilling complex reporting requirements.

Epstein — who runs a pro-fossil fuel think tank devoted to the morality of spreading coal, oil, and gas — has risen in Trump’s second term. The once-obscure activist has become a key architect of the reconciliation bill’s energy sections, pushing Republican lawmakers to remove federal subsidies for renewables.

As Jigar Shah, former director of the Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office, pointed out on the latest episode of the Open Circuit podcast, Epstein has never worked in energy.

“There’s not a single investor who’s like, ‘What does Alex Epstein think?,’” Shah said. “But Lord Almighty, he’s the one that [White House Chief of Staff] Susie Wiles brought to a Republican Senator breakfast.”

But even Epstein, writing Saturday evening on X, renounced the last-minute Senate amendment: “I just learned about the excise tax and it’s definitely not something I would support.”

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and President Donald Trump’s former “first buddy,” also expressed alarm. “The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country!” the billionaire wrote on X, in response to a post about the excise tax. “It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.”

According to a preliminary analysis by the Rhodium Group, the new tax would increase the cost of wind and solar by between 10% and 20% over the next decade, “depending on the pace of cost reductions for these technologies. (This comes on top of losing the tax credits themselves, which would already decrease the installation of new renewables on the grid by between 57% and 72% by 2035.)

“Combined with the likely onerous administrative reporting burden this provision puts in place, these cost increases will lead to even lower wind and solar installations,” the Rhodium Group analysts shared via email. “The impacts of this tax would also flow through to consumers in the form of higher electricity rates.”

The weekend has seen a rush of industry commentators — and even lawmakers themselves, including Sen. Brian Schatz, the Democrat from Hawaii— expressing dread over the new provision. As Bob Keefe, executive director of industry group E2 put it, “this is how you kill an industry.”

It’s unclear whether the pushback, either from Epstein or from the clean energy industry, will have much of an impact as lawmakers enter a frantic “vote-a-rama” over the coming days. (For context, the vote-a-rama over the Inflation Reduction Act that expanded and fortified the very tax credits that are now under threat lasted roughly 16 hours in 2022.)

The tax is still only vaguely rendered. It’s such a recent addition to the 940-page bill that there isn’t yet a calculated budget impact, which could make it easier for Democrats to throw out during the vote-a-rama expected to begin later tonight. But the bill has so many other renewable energy provisions — from an accelerated expiration of clean vehicle credits to adding tax credits for metallurgical coal production — that it’s possible that even the most renewables-friendly lawmakers have other priorities.

After Senate Republicans voted to advance the latest bill draft late last night, debate is expected to begin early tomorrow morning.

The industry’s hope rests now on a few key Republicans, including Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Thom Tillis (N.C.). A reconciliation bill requires just a simple majority to pass, and the GOP holds 53 to the Democrats’ 47 seats.

Earlier today, after President Trump posted on Truth Social that he would support primary challengers against Sen. Tillis’ bid for reelection in 2026, the senator said he would be stepping down, in a statement lamenting the demise of independent thinking in Washington, D.C.
