Google says hackers are sending extortion emails to executives

Alphabet’s Google said hackers are sending extortion emails to an unspecified number of executives, claiming to have stolen sensitive data from their Oracle business applications.

In a statement, Google said a group claiming affiliation with the ransomware gang cl0p was sending emails to "executives at numerous organizations claiming to have stolen sensitive data from their Oracle E-Business Suite."

Google cautioned that it "does not currently have sufficient evidence to definitively assess the veracity of these claims."

Messages seeking comment from cl0p and Oracle were not immediately returned. Google described the email campaign as "high-volume" but declined to share further details.

'New, highly transmissible COVID-19 strain fueling wave of infections across US'

Just in time for respiratory virus season, a highly transmissible COVID-19 strain is fueling a wave of infections across the US.

The XFG variant, informally known as “Stratus,” has been driving up case numbers. Stratus’ ability to evade immune system defenses has propelled it past NB.1.8.1 (aka “Nimbus”) as the dominant Covid strain.

The increased Covid activity comes as the US heads into fall respiratory illness season — which tends to bring a rise in cases of the common cold, flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) — and amid evolving guidance for Covid vaccines.

The level of Covid viral activity in wastewater is “moderate” nationally, according to Sept. 20 data, the latest available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Nineteen states are reporting “high” or “very high” levels of the virus in wastewater, with Nevada, Utah, Connecticut and Delaware leading the way.

Stratus, a hybrid of two Omicron sub-strains, was initially detected in January in Southeast Asia and in the US in the spring.

It had spread to 38 countries by June, prompting the World Health Organization to describe it as a “variant under monitoring.”

Stratus is known to cause hoarseness and a scratchy or sore throat, which can be mistaken for allergies.

Stony Brook Medicine reports that most Stratus cases are mild, especially for those who are vaccinated.

Yet the strain carries unique mutations that enhance its ability to evade antibodies gained from prior Covid infections or vaccinations.

That it’s been able to surpass Nimbus is surprising since Nimbus is skilled at binding to human cells, allowing it to spread quickly.

An Omicron subvariant, Nimbus wreaked havoc this summer in the US.

It’s known for causing a severe sore throat, ominously called “razor blade” throat.

To protect against Covid and other respiratory viruses, health experts advise practicing good hygiene, improving indoor air ventilation and filtration and staying up to date with vaccines.

The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recently recommended the 2025-2026 updated Covid vaccines for anyone 6 months and older after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Harvard hires drag queen named ‘LaWhore Vagistan’ as visiting professor

Harvard University hired a drag performer as a new professor — who is expected to teach a class on TV show “Ru Paul’s Drag Race” in the spring semester, the Ivy League school announced over the summer.

The institution welcomed Kareem Khubchandani in a July message to the college community and revealed the visiting professor from Tufts University will teach in the Studies of Gender and Sexuality program thanks to the Harvard Gender and Sexuality Caucus.

Newly announced visiting professor at the vaunted Harvard University Kareem Khubchandani performs drag under the stage name “LaWhore Vagistan.”

Khubchandani is perhaps better known by his stage name, “LaWhore Vagistani,” — a persona that the academic has made an integral part of their pedagogy.

The professor will often lecture in the guise of “LaWhore,” which has been a personal project for over a decade, even spawning a music video entitled “Sari.”

In an interview with his own drag persona published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2015, Khubchandani spilled the tea on the origin of the off-putting stage name.

Kareem Khubchandani is a professor of Theater, Dance, and Performance
Studies at Tufts University.

“My name is LaWhore Vagistan, my preferred pronouns are “she” or “aunty.” I chose ‘LaWhore’ because my family traces its origins to Pakistan: Lahore is an important city in Pakistan, and well, I’m a bit of a w*ore,” the drag queen said.

“And Vagistan because I see the subcontinent as one, big, beautiful Vag…istan,” he wrote in the tacky, naval-gazing self-interview.

Khubchandani will teach just two classes over the course of two semesters — “Queer Ethnography” in the fall and “RuPaulitics: Drag, Race, and Desire” in the spring semester, according to Harvard’s announcement.

The latter class will apparently focus on the cable television show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

The Tufts University associate professor of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies has authored books “Decolonizer Drag: and “Ishstyle: Accenting Gay Indian Nightlife” and is debuting his newest tome this fall — “Lessons in Drag: A Queer Manual for Academics, Artists, and Aunties.”

News of Khubchandani’s new gig emerged just days after President Trump unfroze $2.4 billion in federal grants to Harvard after an agreement the institution would now operate a new bevy of trade schools.

“This would be a giant trade school, or a series of trade schools. It would be run by Harvard,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday.

Harvard did not respond to a request for comment.
