- Kiniksa Pharmaceuticals (KNSA +0.9%) has posted positive data from its investigator-initiated Phase 2 study testing its monoclonal antibody treatment mavrilimumab for treating patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and hyperinflammation.
- The 40-subject was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of mavrilimumab versus placebo on top of standard of care therapy.
- There was a 20.5% relative increase in the primary efficacy endpoint, the proportion of patients alive and off supplemental oxygen at Day 14.
- Data also showed encouraging trends of reduced mortality and duration of mechanical ventilation in patients treated with mavrilimumab.
- Currently, the company is enrolling in Phase 2 portion of Phase 2/3 trial in severe COVID-19. Data from Phase 2 portion is expected in 1H of 2021.
- The antibody is also being developed for giant cell arteritis, and Phase 2 data showed that the study met the primary endpoint demonstrating a statistically significant improvement in time-to-first GCA flare by week 26 compared to placebo.
