Blue Cross Blue Shield settles US health provider class action for $2.8 billion

Insurer Blue Cross Blue Shield has agreed to pay $2.8 billion to resolve antitrust class action lawsuits by large hospital systems, physicians and other health providers alleging they were underpaid for reimbursements, according to a filing in Alabama federal court on Monday.

Blue Cross Blue Shield said in a statement that it denied the allegations, but in order to “put years of litigation behind us, we have agreed to make some operational changes and a monetary payment to the provider class involved in the case.
