G7 to invest in Canadian critical minerals projects

G7 is to make investments in critical minerals projects in Canada, such as stockpiling, mineral purchase agreements, equity deals and price floors, as announced on Friday after the G7 energy ministers' meeting in Toronto.

The seven economies will invest in graphite mine projects in Montreal and Ontario, as well as in rare earth projects in Quebec. "This demonstrates to the world that we can leverage multilateralism to address the current crisis we are facing on critical minerals supply chains," Canadian Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson said. He added that G7 investments will reduce the country's dependence on China regarding rare earths.

Earlier this week, United States President Donald Trump declared that the issue of rare earths was settled with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and that there was "no roadblock from China anymore."
