Nvidia Corp. CEO Jensen Huang said on Friday that he was disappointed by the fall of his company's market share in China and expressed hope that its Blackwell artificial intelligence chips can still be sold in the country. However, he stressed that the final decision on the matter lies with United States President Donald Trump. Trump said yesterday that Chinese authorities will speak to Huang about chip exports, but that the talks will not include Blackwell.
Huang noted that the Chinese market is "simply irreplaceable" for Nvidia and pointed to the amount of important AI research done in the country. However, he conceded that Chinese companies make "plenty of chips" and that China does not want US-made chips, such as the H20, in its military equipment for national security reasons.
