UnitedHealth (UNH) has announced a significant expansion of its Optum Rx division's cost-based pharmacy reimbursement model. By partnering with additional pharmacy services administration organizations, the model now includes over 17,000 community pharmacies. This expansion ensures that 100% of community and independent pharmacies in the Optum Rx network have adopted the new model, with full implementation targeted by January 2028. The initiative aims to provide greater transparency and financial predictability for pharmacies, addressing imbalances in drug payment structures.
