The Russia-installed so-called Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic sentenced on Thursday a former British soldier, Hayden Davies, to 13 years in a maximum-security penal colony over his participation in the conflict in Ukraine.
The court claimed in its statement that Davies arrived in Ternopil in August 2024 and joined the International Legion for the Defence of Ukraine. It insisted that Davies, as a mercenary, was paid for fighting Russia on the Ukrainian side.
Davies was arrested in the winter of 2024, allegedly while carrying United States-made weapons and ammunition. After that, he was featured in Russian propaganda videos, seemingly significantly edited, in which he appeared to criticize the International Legion and the Ukrainian leadership.
