Shares of Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk A/S surged more than 6% on Friday after the United Kingdom's regulator approved a higher dose of weight-loss drug Wegovy for patients with obesity.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency approved a maximum dose of up to 7.2 milligrams per week of Novo Nordisk's Wegovy to be administered as three injections of 2.4 mg for people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or higher. The higher dose option does not apply to overweight patients with a BMI below 30 kg/m² who are using Wegovy to control their weight, nor to patients who are using the medication to reduce the risk of serious heart problems, the regulator stressed.
Novo Nordisk's stock jumped 6.71% at 10:58 am CET to sell for 389.70 Danish kroner apiece.
