Trump's the frontrunner as Biden has no message on economy and immigration

While Joe Biden is in striking distance of Donald Trump in the polls, the way the White House is approaching the upcoming election does not provide us with any degree of confidence they have a winning strategy, approach or message other than demonizing Trump as they did in 2020 and 2022.

The problem with this approach is that elections tend to be a referendum on incumbent politicians, most of all. And so far, the polls show that currently, voters feel better about how their quality of life was under Trump than it is under Biden, suggesting that this is a contest the incumbent is much more likely to lose than to win.

A new national poll by Schoen Cooperman Research shows former President Trump leading President Biden by two points (47% to 45%). RealClear Politics’ general election polling average comes to a similar conclusion, with Trump leading Biden 47.5% to 45.5%.

Worse, Biden’s approval rating sits at 38%, according the latest Wall Street Journal poll and averages 39.6 points on RCP. In our experience, when an incumbent has an approval rating below 40%, it is virtually impossible for him to be re-elected. Therefore, this is not just a warning sign, but a sign of a near-death electoral experience.

Biden Seeks to Boost Emergency Aid to Gaza With Privately Administered Offshore Pier

President Biden is set to announce in his State of the Union speech Thursday that the U.S. military will install a temporary pier off the Gaza coast for cargo ships to unload food, water and other emergency supplies, boosting the direct American role in addressing the strip’s humanitarian crisis.

Biden directed the military to carry out the emergency project, aiming to ease food shortages and lack of shelter and medical services for Gaza’s 2.2 million residents, according to U.S. officials who briefed reporters ahead of Biden’s speech Thursday evening.

Once the pier is in place, aid shipments enabled by the U.S. and a coalition of partners and allies will flow to Gaza, initially from Cyprus, according to U.S. officials who briefed reporters ahead of Biden’s speech Thursday evening.

The forces that will be required to complete this mission are either already in the region or will begin to move there soon, they said. The mission, which is expected to last only temporarily, won’t require U.S. boots on the ground in Gaza, officials said.

The Biden administration is looking to at least one American company, Fogbow, to coordinate deliveries to Gaza through the new maritime corridor using commercial ships, according to Gulf officials and people familiar with the plan.

Fogbow, which is made up of former U.S. government, military and United Nations officials, will lead efforts to secure the ships, coordinate with the Israeli government, the U.N. and Gazans on the ground, those people said.

The Qatari government has approved funding to support the use of commercial ships to Gaza, Qatari officials said. Administration officials said that they are exploring options for shipping aid by sea, but that they haven’t reached a formal agreement with any company.

Biden’s expected announcement follows the commencement of airdrops by the U.S. military and other countries last week into Gaza. U.S. officials have expressed frustration in recent weeks that humanitarian convoys moving by truck into Gaza have dropped sharply in recent weeks, because of worsening security and a refusal by Israel to open additional border crossings.

The U.S., along with Jordan’s Royal Air Force, conducted a humanitarian airdrop of 38,000 pounds of meals into Gaza Thursday, according to the Pentagon.

U.S. officials said they would seek to coordinate with Israel on aid deliveries, as well as work with the United Nations and humanitarian nonprofit groups on the distribution of assistance within Gaza. But the U.S.-led effort to boost aid into Gaza by sea and air would go ahead even without Israeli participation, the officials said.

“The president has directed that we look at all options—that we not wait for the Israelis, and that we are pursuing every channel possible to get assistance into Gaza,” one senior official said.

The assistance will need to be transported by land within Gaza to reach those in need once it arrives at the pier, U.S. officials said, adding that they are working with the U.N. and other partners to find safe routes within Gaza for distribution of the assistance.

“It certainly will be complex to work out, but I think the more avenues we have to get assistance in the more we will be able to reliably move it around within Gaza as well,” a U.S. official said.

Dear Mr. President, My Life Is Worth Living

As a teenager, I described myself as the “little girl who can’t walk, but always smiles.” I reflected on this youthful characterization often throughout the past month – ever since I learned that the Bidens invited Kate Cox to the upcoming State of the Union as their special guest.

Kate Cox is a Texas mom who chose abortion after learning that her preborn baby had Trisomy 18, a condition that increases the risk of stillbirth, or infant death shortly after birth. Though Texas law prohibits abortions, it mimics all other pro-life laws in providing exceptions for medical emergencies endangering mothers’ lives. It allows doctors to use their medical judgment to perform an abortion if the medical emergency puts a mother at risk of losing a major bodily function, of which 71 such abortions have occurred in Texas since Dobbs.

Despite the media's inaccurate portrayal, Ms. Cox was seeking an abortion because her child had a disability. Texas law protects unborn babies from disability discrimination abortion. She decided to travel out of state to obtain an abortion and became active in the raging national abortion debate.

Politics aside, my heart goes out to Kate and her child. Having a child with a significant disability is daunting – which my parents quickly learned when I was diagnosed with Pompe disease at just 15 months old. Pompe disease is a rare, genetic, and life-threatening condition that causes muscle weakness, in the heart especially and causes significant breathing problems.

Pompe disease used to be a death sentence for most children. Many babies diagnosed with it don’t survive beyond early childhood, if even the age of 2. When my parents’ doctor told them I had Pompe disease, he also told them to go home and enjoy the time that they had with me.

Thank God they had hope in a better future for me.

My parents, especially my father, fought to find effective treatment avenues for me and spent my whole childhood loving and supporting me. Thanks to their selflessness, I’ve lived 27 joyful years. I defied expectations by achieving my bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 2019 and receiving my master's in social work at UNC Chapel Hill in 2021. All the while in a wheelchair and needing a ventilator to breathe. Now I work full-time for Make-A-Wish New Jersey as Assistant Director of Mission Integration.

Even if I didn’t go to college or have a great job, my life would still be worth living. My parents’ awareness of this reality inspired them to fight to give me and my brother the best and most normal life possible, even though I wasn’t “culturally perfect” or “valuable.”

My parent’s love and support contrasts sharply with the media’s narrative that disability is a death sentence – a narrative already disproven by advances in medicine and technology that are actively increasing rates of survival for babies with life-threatening conditions. Moreover, contrary to popular fearmongering, most fetal conditions don’t endanger moms

Tragically, President Biden and pro-abortion Democrats are stoking panic and fear throughout the nation to garner support for their vision of abortion on demand, without limit – even up until the moment of birth.

They quickly exploited Kate Cox and her unborn daughter’s tragedy for this purpose. Noticeably, their agitated discussions excluded ideas on how society could support and encourage women like Kate aside from abortion. Simply stated, they chose not to favor life and all its wonderful potential for children born with a significant disability. They also operated on the assumption that Kate’s child – and any child diagnosed with Trisomy 18 – could never live a happy life. According to them, people like me aren’t even worth the effort. In so doing, they demean the lives of so many who live, love and thrive despite their genetic disorders and disabilities.

Far too many women are pressured into abortion because of diagnoses like Trisomy 18 and other rare diseases. They are fed the lie that pro-life laws endanger their own lives, and that babies with disabilities are better off not even being born.

The truth is that many babies diagnosed with Trisomy 18 and other serious conditions go on to defy expectations. When Trisomy 18 babies receive appropriate care and intervention, over 80% survive until discharge and nearly 60% live until at least their first birthday. Just look at Faith Smith, whose parents were pressured to abort her when she was diagnosed with Trisomy 18. Instead, Faith’s parents pursued proper medical care for her. Today, she is a teenager, living a beautiful life with her loving parents and four siblings.

I wish that President Biden would highlight uplifting stories like ours at the State of the Union and encourage Americans to have hope in the face of these difficult situations, and to respect and appreciate the awesome beauty, value and dignity of each human life. Sadly, the Bidens will instead use Kate Cox’s tragedy for political gain.

Our nation’s women and children deserve better. Women like Kate Cox deserve to know how abundantly their children can – and will – live if they are willing to meet them and give them a chance.

My life is not perfect, yet even as a teenager, I recognized that my worth, happiness, and existence were independent of my physical capabilities. Even though I was a “little girl who couldn’t walk,” I was a little girl who “always smiled.”

Not every child is perfectly functional or healthy. Yet every child’s life will shine light and joy on those who are willing to accept the responsibility of loving them.

Megan Crowley, born with Pompe disease, is now a 27-year-old Notre Dame graduate who also achieved her master's in social work at UNC Chapel Hill in 2021. She now works full-time for Make-A-Wish New Jersey as Assistant Director of Mission Integration. Megan and her father’s story was chronicled in a book,  “The Cure,” and inspired the movie “Extraordinary Measures” starring Harrison Ford.

Secretive China-Linked Socialist Groups Had Fingerprints All Over BLM-Adjacent Riots: Schweizer

While most people know that BLM was largely behind the 2020 riots that followed the death of George Floyd, author Peter Schweizer has uncovered an angle we did not see coming.

According to Schweizer's book, Blood Money: Why the Powerful Turn a Blind Eye While China Kills Americansmany of the seemingly spontaneous riots were actually organized by members of little-known radical organizations backed and funded by ChinaBreitbart News reports.

One of the groups, the 'secretive pro-Beijing' Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), gave rise to an offshoot called Liberation Road - of which alleged member Montague Simmons founded the Organization for Black Struggle (OBS). Simmons would later admit during a presentation that he brought some 10,000 out-of-state activists to participate in the protest.

A screen grab of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) website taken on March 4, 2024.

According to left-wing author Max Elbaum - who wrote the definitive history of the radical movement, FRSO has an extensive history of taking "their cues from Beijing."

Schweizer writes that beginning with Ferguson, FRSO activists played an important role in the next half decade in pushing protests toward violence.

When the Black Lives Matters (BLM) protests broke out in May 2020 following the death of George Floyd, FRSO members’ fingerprints were all over them.

Weeks after the BLM protests broke out in Minneapolis, FRSO political secretary Steff Yorek’s wife Jess Sundin bragged about organizing night rallies and emptying the police station, Target, and other major stores, calling it “absolutely tied to, connected to, and part of the movement.”

“I can’t tell you the joy it brought all of us to see the Third Precinct destroyed,” she said. -Breitbart News

In August 2020, FRSO member Michael Sampson was involved in rioting in Kenosha, Wisconsin - where the organization has a chapter. Sampson also organized a protest in Jacksonville, Florida.

In 2022, FRSO openly pledged its support for the Chinese Communist Party, writing in a letter:

Dear Comrades,

Freedom Road Socialist Organization congratulates the leadership of the Communist Party of China, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, for the great successes achieved at the 20th National Congress. . . . Socialist China is an example to oppressed people everywhere who yearn for a better future. Again, congratulations on a successful 20th Congress. The CPC is truly a great political party that has proven its ability to do great things. Long live the Communist Party of China! Long live the unity between the people of China and the people of the U.S.!

With fraternal greetings.

Another secretive group with ties to Beijing is the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), which has contributed to the social disunity in America since Ferguson.

PSL member and the national director of the ANSWER Coalition, Brian Becker, framed the Ferguson protests as a "rebellion." The group (PSL) distributed flyers throughout Ferguson claiming "There can be no peace with this system! . . . The Party for Socialism and Liberation stands with those in the streets—they have every right to rebel. . . . the system is criminal . . . The cops are the real gangs."

Screen grab of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) website taken on March 4, 2024.

According to Becker - who has defended the CCP for the Tiananmen Square Massacre 'that wasn't' while slamming police brutality in America, it's the "responsibility of all revolutionaries and progressive people to resist the imperialist offensive and offer militant political defense of the Chinese government."

Becker was even interviewed by CCP-funded outlet the Global Times for a piece titled "China’s Socialist Goals a Source of Inspiration to Those Who Seek a Humanist Alternative: AntiWar Socialist."

He also appeared on Chinese state-owned media where he criticized the United States while defending the CCP.

Another PSL leader, Eugene Puryear of Washington DC, was actively involved in the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis, Philadelphia and DC. Puryear has similarly heaped praise on China, and even hosted a podcast episode entitled: "Why China Will Win: Capitalism Inherently Collapses." He's also referred to criticism of China's human rights record as "warmongering propaganda."

According to the report:

PSL also organized a protest in Denver in July 2020, where a mob of 600 people surrounded the Aurora Police Department’s District 1 station and barricaded it for more than seven hours. Four PSL members were arrested and charged with inciting and engaging a riot.

PSL also organized some of the largest demonstrations in Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The paper “failed to inform its readers about PSL’s close ties to Beijing or the organization’s defense of more extensive and widespread police brutality in China,” Schweizer writes. -Breitbart News

'Flu Vaccines to Change After COVID Kills Off One Strain of Virus: FDA'

An FDA advisory committee has recommended that the United States switch from a quadrivalent to trivalent influenza vaccine for the next flu season.

The flu vaccine currently in use targets two A strains and two B strains. But the Yamagata/B subtype, which was already in decline, has not been detected worldwide since March 2020, the FDA said. Social distancing and other precautions used to avoid COVID apparently finished it off.

In response to that change, the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) voted Tuesday to recommend the three-strain flu shot.

VRBPAC recommended the egg-based flu vaccines contain an A/Victoria/4897/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus, an A/Thailand/8/2022 (H3N2)-like virus; and a B/Austria/1359417/2021 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus.

The committee recommended the cell- or recombinant-based flu vaccines contain an A/Wisconsin/67/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus; an A/Massachusetts/18/2022 (H3N2)-like virus; and a B/Austria/1359417/2021 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus.

The move is no surprise. The World Health Organization and FDA experts had been recommending the change since last year.

Jerry Weir, MD, director of the FDA’s Division of Viral Products, said companies that make flu vaccines should have the trivalent shot ready for the 2024-2025  flu season.

“Each of the U.S. influenza vaccine manufacturers have submitted updated regulatory files related to a trivalent influenza vaccine, and approval of all the necessary regulatory submissions is on track for 2024-25,” he said during the advisory committee’s meeting, according to CNN.

“FDA anticipates that there will be an adequate and diverse supply of approved trivalent seasonal influenza vaccines for the United States in the coming season,” the agency said.

U.S. flu vaccine manufacturers will still make a four-strain vaccine for distribution to overseas markets, CNN said.

'Cigna to help health plans limit costs amid boom in weight-loss drugs'

Cigna Group said on Thursday its pharmacy benefit management unit had launched a program aiming to cap annual cost increases for health insurance providers and employers from new weight-loss drugs at 15%, as demand for the treatments soars.

High demand for Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy and Eli Lilly’s Zepbound has led to an increase in costs for employer-sponsored health insurance in recent months.

Cigna's Evernorth unit will offer its clients a guarantee that it will limit annual increases in GLP-1 drug costs at 15%, a spokesperson said. The company aims to achieve this through various measures, including helping people with obesity and diabetes get lifestyle modification and coaching support.

Evernorth will also take on a financial risk with the guarantee, the spokesperson said.

This, in turn, would help ensure access to the drugs for appropriate patients, according to Cigna.

The company has also signed agreements related to the new program with Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, but did not provide details.

Cigna said the new GLP-1 program was the "industry’s first financial guarantee" for clients interested in covering weight-loss drugs designed to mimic a hormone called GLP-1, to regulate blood sugar, slow digestion and suppress appetite.

Reuters reported in December that some patients with type 2 diabetes had faced difficulties in getting reimbursed for drugs like Ozempic as U.S. insurers implemented restrictions designed to deter doctors from prescribing the medication for weight loss.

Evernorth's new program adds to the growing list of products and services that are being launched either to increase the use of GLP-1 drugs, or curb the expenses associated with them, including those by weight-loss program operator WW International and Eli Lilly.

Cigna also raised its long-term annual adjusted EPS growth target to between 10 and 14%, from the 10 to 13% target it had given in December.
