Denver schools facing 'unprecedented challenge' with influx of migrant students

Denver’s public school system has been taking in as many as 250 new students a week since the new year, which it attributes to the increase in the number of migrants arriving in the city.

Denver Public Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero called the situation an “unprecedented challenge” in a message to the community posted on the district’s website. The district said the influx of new students will cost an additional $837,000 “to support additional needs across the system.”

From July 1, 2023 to January 2024, there were 3,221 new-to-country students with more than 1,300 coming to Denver schools since Oct. 1, 2023, the district stated.

The district is hiring more staff to deal with the increase in students and focusing on hiring people who are bilingual, according to the superintendent.

“The pace of new arrivals has remained steady since the start of 2024, with roughly 200-250 students joining us each week,” a report to the school board stated last week.

On Feb. 5, the city of Denver started enforcing 42-day limits on migrants living in city-owned shelters.

“We are watching enrollment data closely over the next few weeks to see if/how our student population moves in response,” the report stated.

The school district provides a phone number to call “to speak to someone in your language.”

The district has struggled with dwindling enrollment since the pandemic. Enrollment reached 93,800 in the 2019-20 school year and then fell to 90,300 in the 2020-2021 pandemic year. In 2021-22, enrollment stayed about the same at 90,250 and then dropped to 89,200 in 2022-23.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has been sending migrants from Texas to sanctuary cities across the U.S. On Feb. 12, Abbott posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that Texas has bused more than 16,200 migrants to Denver.

"Texas will not stop until President Biden secures the border," Abbott stated on X.

Denver Public Schools did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Lawmakers Demanding Answers from FBI on Alleged Mich. Vote Fraud Cover-Up Met With Silence

In August 2023, Phil O’Halloran and Lori Skibo, two prominent election integrity investigators in Michigan, revealed a startling Michigan State Police report regarding a statewide voter registration fraud investigation that commenced just one month before the 2020 general election.

The 68-page report, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by citizen Chris Caijula, detailed suspicious activities related to thousands of voter registration forms delivered to the Muskegon City Clerk’s office by a woman employed at GBI Strategies, also known as “Empower Michigan.”

Muskegon City Clerk Ann Meisch reported receiving between 8,000 and 10,000 completed voter registration applications, of which 42 were suspected to be fraudulent.

Police are contacted after fraud suspected.

She contacted the Muskegon Police Department on October 16, 2020 when she noticed that someone had hand-delivered thousands of voter registrations to her office, many in the same handwriting and many with invalid or non-existent addresses.

On October 20th, according to Meisch, approximately 2500 additional forms were brought in by the same person.

At least four law enforcement entities have been involved in investigation.
The investigation that commenced included the Michigan State Police as well as the attorney general’s office, and later uncovered that GBI Strategies, a firm associated with the woman delivering the registrations, operated from the other side of the state. Further revelations included multiple clerks across Michigan receiving similar fraudulent registrations from GBI Strategies.

Michigan GOP officials acquired and subsequently shared police reports with the Gateway Pundit website. The documents revealed that the state police and Nessel’s office concluded their investigation by mid-2021, transferring materials to the FBI as part of a broader national inquiry, according to law enforcement.

Despite the severity of the situation, Michigan’s top Democratic officials, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Attorney General Dana Nessel, focused on downplaying election security concerns rather than addressing the potential fraud.

Although the two women have sent out press releases at a furious pace since getting elected, especially about election integrity, they have never composed one on the issue going on in Muskegon.

The Michigan State Police report detailed the discovery of partially completed voter registration forms, burner phones, and pre-paid cards at GBI Strategies’ headquarters.

Even more alarming, the investigation found “pelican cases” containing semi-automatic rifles, suppressors, and customized pistols inside the Democrat Party-funded GBI Strategies room.

Michigan lawmakers demand answers

In a response to these findings, Michigan Representatives Rachelle Smit (R-Martin) and Jay DeBoyer (R-Clay Twp.) submitted a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on January 24th.

Their letter seeks answers regarding the ongoing GBI Strategies investigation and outlines the apparent coordination of voter registration fraud by GBI Strategies, its lack of registration to do business in Michigan, and the concerning presence of illegal weapons at its office. It also expresses concern over the FBI’s handling of the case, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the face of potential whitewashing.

The letter questions the FBI’s delay in prosecuting the case, considering the gravity of the reported 10,000-12,000 fraudulent voter registrations. The lawmakers also highlight the FBI’s limited involvement with other investigators, with a brief 15-minute review of files and subsequent silence. They urge Director Wray to present the evidence to the public, discussing the importance of addressing potential criminal conduct in the election process.

The lawmakers also point to a possible conflict of interest, noting GBI Strategies’ connection to prominent Democrats, including Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) and then-presidential candidate, Democrat Joe Biden.

FBI has not responded to lawmaker inquiries about investigation.

As of the latest update, Representative Smit has confirmed receiving no response from FBI Director Wray. The lack of prosecutions after three years of the reports remaining dormant, coupled with the apparent reluctance of Michigan’s top officials to address the serious allegations, leaves lingering questions about the integrity of the 2020 election and the commitment to safeguarding future elections in the state.

Rep. Smit says in a press release about the situation, “As a former clerk, I can confidently say these registrations were put in the voter file so someone could falsify absentee ballots. I spent months asking our attorney general and FBI director for answers, but they remain silent.”

She goes on to say, “Their inaction in the face of thousands of suspicious applications indicates a systemic voter fraud coverup exists in the 2020 election. These law enforcement leaders will likely allow the statute of limitations to expire, protecting the criminal enterprise.”

Rep. Jay DeBoyer, another former clerk serving in the Legislature, says, “I spent 12 years as the St. Clair County Clerk. If what occurred in Muskegon had happened on my watch, I wouldn’t have left the prosecutor’s office until a legitimate investigation was clearly underway.”
