Inside Boeing’s shocking personnel scandals: Drug dealing, love triangle and murder-suicide

 Boeing whistleblower John Barnett was found dead in his car with a gunshot wound to his head on the same day he was due to testify against the aircraft manufacturer.

The mysterious incident happened as the company’s stock has nosedived, fueled by a series of incidents including a door plug which flew off a 737 MAX 9 operated by Alaska Airlines at 16,000 feet on Jan. 5 and a wheel falling off a 777 jet a few weeks later.

This led the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) to investigate and discover “unacceptable” quality control issues.

While Barnett’s death has raised many eyebrows, it is far from the first incident involving the company’s workers.

Here we take a look back at some of Boeing’s biggest scandals.

2008: Disgruntled worker admits cutting chinook wires over ‘work stress’

A disgruntled worker at a Boeing plant told a court that he cut about 70 electrical wires on a $24 million Chinook military helicopter because he was upset about a job transfer.

Matthew Montgomery, 33, pleaded guilty in 2008 to one count of destroying property under contract to the government.

According to federal prosecutors, Montgomery was working his last shift on the Chinook assembly line May 10, 2008 when he severed about 70 electrical wires running together from the cockpit to the main body of an H-47 Chinook.

He was later sentenced to five months in prison and five months in home confinement after telling the judge the tension and tedium of his assembly-line job had gotten to him.

“I know now that a factory environment is not the place for me,” Montgomery said in court.

2011: Feds arrest 23 in Boeing plant drug raid

Almost two dozen past and then-current employees were arrested in a drug bust at a Boeing plant which makes military aircraft in Pennsylvania, with the charges including selling Oxycontin and fentanyl, officials said.

In a major sting, FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents uncovered the illegal prescription drug distribution ring at the Ridley Park-based factory, leading to indictments against 23 individuals, a joint statement from the agencies said.

“The defendants in this case are accused of diverting controlled substances and selling them to alleged abusers without any medical supervision,” said DEA Acting Special Agent in Charge, Vito Guarino, in 2011.

The drugs being sold on site at the facility – which builds aircraft including the H-47 Chinook helicopter and the V-22 Ospre – included fentanyl and oxycodone, also known as Oxycontin.

Boeing had brought its suspicions of drug activity to federal law enforcement and the Justice Department said it had cooperated fully with the long-term investigation.

FBI agents used Boeing employees to cooperate in the probe, and those charged were accused of either selling drugs to FBI cooperators or buying placebo drugs from them, officials said.

Boeing commended the U.S. agencies for their “rigorous and thorough investigation.

All 23, including a union chief, had all pleaded guilty by August 2012, according to a report in the Philadelphia Enquirer.

2014: Boeing workers claim coke and meth used while on the job

In a damning 2014 video clip, several Boeing employees claimed colleagues were on hard drugs including cocaine and meth while they worked, and raised concerns about the safety of the 787 Dreamliner aircrafts.

Current and retired Boeing employees discussed their worries about quality control with news service Al Jazeera’s investigative TV segment “Broken Dreams: The Boeing 787”.

On a video secretly taken at the plant by a worker and leaked to the network, one Boeing employee said he has seen “people talking about doing drugs, looking for drugs”, specifically marijuana, cocaine and prescription painkillers.

In the footage, he records one man saying: “It’s all coke and painkillers” at the plant, adding, “you can get weed here, you can get some really good weed here”.

Another, who spoke on condition of anonymity, complained that Boeing “don’t drug test nobody”, adding that “there’s people that go out there on lunch and smoke one up”.

In a statement at the time, Boeing said: “Drug testing of employees is done in accordance with Boeing … Boeing thoroughly investigates any employee reports of policy deviation, and appropriate corrective action is taken if needed.”

Using the hidden camera, the worker filmed 15 colleagues inside the Boeing South Carolina plant assembling the 787 Dreamliner and asked if they would fly on the plane. Ten said they would not, according to Aljazeera.

“I wouldn’t fly on one of these planes,” one worker tells him, “because I see the quality of the f—g s–t going down around here”.

In a statement, Boeing said: “787 airplanes … meet the highest safety and quality standards that are verified through robust test, verification and inspection processes.”

Those who spoke on camera also claimed the company didn’t carry out drug tests on staff. Boeing denied those claims.Al Jazeera

2022: Boeing blamed for murder-suicide of colleagues in love triangle

Boeing’s failure to act after learning two of its employees were involved in love triangle with their supervisor resulted in one of the employees murdering his co-worker, according to a lawsuit filed in 2022.

The estate of former Boeing employee Isaiah Washington, 28, filed the Boeing negligence lawsuit after he was fatally shot on the street by co-worker Ralph O’Connor, 44, who then killed himself.

In January this year, the company argued the employees were not on the clock when the murder occurred, in a bid to have the case tossed.

According to the King County Medical Examiner, Washington was shot several times, and O’Connor then shot himself.

The lawsuit alleges both men had been in sexual relationships with Boeing supervisor Rachel Pettit, leading to threats from O’Connor against Washington.

Boeing was made aware of the threats and O’Connor’s history of threatening behavior, according to the lawsuit.

Lawyers for Boeing said O’Connor left the company after it learned of messages he had sent, including one where he told coworkers he wanted to “pull the trigger”.

In their motion asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed, the company said: “the complaint contains no allegations suggesting that Boeing knew or should have known that O’Connor might kill or harm someone other than himself.”

The civil case has yet to be resolved.

2024: FAA finds ‘multiple instances’ of quality control issues in audit

The FAA’s six-week audit of Boeing’s 737 MAX manufacturing processes faulted numerous company processes, including mechanics at one of its key suppliers using a hotel key card and dish soap as makeshift tools to test compliance, according to a report.

The FAA discovered “unacceptable” quality control issues during an audit of Boeing and supplier Spirit AeroSystems that was launched after a door plug flew off a 737 MAX 9 at 16,000 feet on Jan. 5.

Boeing failed 33 out of 89 product audits — a review of specific aspects in the production line — with a total of 97 counts of alleged noncompliance, the auditors found.

“We have a clear picture of what needs to be done. Transparency prevailed in all of these discussions,” Boeing said in a statement following the FAA’s probe.

Last Tuesday, the company revealed it is adding weekly compliance checks for every 737 work area and additional audits of equipment to reduce quality problems, in a memo to employees.

2024: Whistleblower found dead in mysterious circumstances

John Barnett, a 62-year-old longtime Boeing employee who went public with safety concerns about the 787 Dreamliner, died a day after sitting for a deposition with the company’s lawyers on March 9 this year.

His lawyers raised the alarm after he failed to show up for a deposition in Charleston, South Carolina. 

A coroner’s report preliminarily said he died from a “self-inflicted” wound, but the Charleston Police Department is still making inquiries.

A “close family friend” of Barnett, who gave her name only as Jennifer to ABC News 4 claimed he had told her not to believe any reports of his suicide before his death.

She claimed he had insisted “I ain’t scared” before adding “but if anything happens to me it’s not suicide.”

Jennifer told the program she believes somebody “didn’t like what he had to say” and wanted to “shut him up”.

Those claims have not been verified and there is no suggestion of Boeing being involved in any foul play.

Boeing also released a statement, saying: “We are saddened by Mr. Barnett’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Barnett’s lawyers, Robert Turkewitz and Brian Knowles, are also suspicious.

They said in a statement: “John was a brave, honest man of the highest integrity.

“He cared dearly about his family, his friends, the Boeing company, his Boeing co-workers, and the pilots and people who flew on Boeing aircraft. We have rarely met someone with a more sincere and forthright character.”

The investigation into his death is ongoing and sources previously told The Post police had dusted his car for fingerprints inside and out, a highly unusual move in suicide cases.

EU to bolster Egypt ties with billions of euros in funding

 The European Union announced a 7.4 billion euro ($8.06 billion)funding package and an upgraded relationship with Egypt, part of a push to stem migrant flows to Europe that has been criticised by rights groups.

The agreement, which lifts the European Union's relationship with Egypt to a "strategic partnership", was announced as a delegation of leaders visited Cairo. It is designed to boost cooperation in areas including renewable energy, trade, and security while delivering grants, loans and other funding over the next three years to support Egypt's faltering economy.

The proposed funding includes 5 billion euros in concessional loans and 1.8 billion euros of investments, according to a summary of the plan published by the EU. An additional 600 million euros would be provided in grants, including 200 million euros for managing migration issues.

European governments have long been worried about the risk of instability in Egypt, a country of 106 million people that has been struggling to raise foreign currency and where economic adversity has pushed increasing numbers to migrate in recent years.

Inflation has been running close to record highs and many Egyptians say they struggle to get by. Over the past month, however, the financial pressure on the government has eased as Egypt has struck a record deal for Emirati investment, expanded its loan programme with the IMF, and sharply devalued its currency.

Diplomats say Egypt's strategic importance has been underscored by the war in Gaza, where Egypt is trying to mediate between Israel and Hamas and increase deliveries of humanitarian aid; and by the conflict in neighbouring Sudan, which has created the world's biggest displacement crisis.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen headed a delegation meeting President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo on Sunday that also includes the Italian, Greek, Austrian and Belgian prime ministers, and the Cypriot president.

Netanyahu Accuses Sen. Schumer Of 'Interference' In Israel's Democracy

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that calls from US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for new elections in Israel are "inappropriate". Schumer on Thursday had called for Netanyahu's government to be unseated, saying new leadership was needed in the country.

"As a lifelong supporter of Israel, it has become clear to me [that] the Netanyahu coalition no longer fits the needs of Israel after October 7," he said, referring to the Hamas attack in southern Israel that resulted in the deaths of almost 1,200 people. "The world has changed radically since then, and the Israeli people are being stifled right now by a governing vision that is stuck in the past."

On Sunday, Netanyahu hit back at Schumer, saying his comments were "totally inappropriate" and amounted to an interference in Israeli democracy.

"I think what he said is totally inappropriate. It's inappropriate to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership there," Netanyahu said in an interview on CNN.

Political leaders in the US have reportedly been increasingly frustrated with Netanyahu's leadership in Israel, particularly his insistence on pushing ahead with a planned assault on Rafah in Gaza, which currently hosts 1.5 million mostly displaced Palestinians sheltering near the Egyptian border.

Netanyahu reiterated his plans to attack the city on Sunday, vowing to uproot what he says are Hamas operatives. Israel's assault on Gaza has reportedly killed at least 31,645 people in Gaza, most of them women and children, according to the enclave's health ministry.

Netanyahu dismissed growing international pressure on Sunday, accusing them of forgetting the deaths on 7 October.

"To our friends in the international community I say: is your memory so short? So quickly you forgot about 7 October, the worst massacre committed against Jews since the Holocaust?" he said at the start of Sunday's cabinet meeting.

"So quickly you are ready to deny Israel the right to defend itself against the monsters of Hamas?"

Prior to 7 October, Netanyahu's government had been rocked by mass demonstrations by Israelis angry about his planned reforms to the judiciary in the country.

Though the war on Gaza has led to a decrease in the anti-Netanyahu protests, disapproval of his government over the reforms and his handling of the war has persisted.

 Corporate media and their woke allies on the Biden/Harris social media campaign team launched a disinformation and misinformation propaganda campaign against former President Trump, purposely misconstruing his speech at an event on Saturday. 

The blatant disinformation and misinformation by leftist newspapers, radicals in the Biden administration, and even Democrat lawmakers have been on full display over the last 15 hours. There has also been an awakening on X of just how bad Democrats are at propaganda - and they can't even make it believable anymore. 

Let's begin with the actual speech. On Saturday evening, X account EndWokeness posted a video of Trump at a campaign rally in Vandalia, Ohio. In it, Trump tells the audience that the American automobile industry will be a bloodbath if he's not re-elected because the Biden administration will allow Chinese cars to flood the market.  


Almost immediately, legacy media outlets, such as NBC News, ABC News, and Politico, among others, took Trump's speech entirely out of context... 

Then, the official X account of Biden/Harris trimmed down the clip to just nine seconds, taking Trump's speech even more out of context.

And the 'Bloodbath Hoax' by Democrats was even pushed on CNN this morning by the best stock trader who has ever lived: 

Meanwhile, Elon Musk commented on the absurd propaganda, saying, "Legacy media lies." 

Musk added, "Yup, hoax-making in process. And it is surprisingly effective!" 

"Please send links from this platform to your friends who are still being misled by the legacy media!" said Musk.

The disinformation and misinformation campaign by the Democrats this weekend is right out in the open. And they're not even good at it!

Leftists Hate Natural Law Because It’s The Only True Bulwark Against Tyranny

 Politico Reporter Heidi Przybyla recently appeared on MSNBC to attack an “extremist element” in the Republican Party that she refers to as “Christian nationalism.” As Przybyla explained, “The thing that unites them as Christian nationalists … is that they believe that our rights as Americans, as all human beings, don’t come from any earthly authority. They don’t come from Congress, they don’t come from the Supreme Court. They come from God.”

This is not only an unfair attack on people of faith, it also gets wrong the entire foundation of our country’s beginning and constitutional order. Our nation’s founding document, the Declaration of Independence itself, cites “the laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” in its central assertion, which lays the groundwork for our entire experiment in self-government: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Our Constitution was written to give a guiding structure to effectuate the principles of the Declaration of Independence and create a government to protect and preserve these God-given rights. That’s why the very first amendment to the Constitution protects the right to the free exercise of religion — because our nation was founded on the idea that our rights come from God. All our subsequent constitutional principles flow from that natural order.

If, as Przybyla says, Christian nationalists are defined as people who believe that our rights come from God rather than government, then every single American founder — and indeed, almost every American president — would qualify as an unabashed Christian nationalist. With her attacks on “Christian nationalism,” Przybyla flips this concept on its face. If our rights don’t come from God, they must come from the government — and if the government can give us our rights, then the government can just as quickly take those rights away. Przybyla tried to walk back what she said, but her cards were already on the table.

Looking around at our country today, as the left tries to strip us of our rights to participate in free and fair elections, raise our children with our values, worship God genuinely and faithfully, speak freely in the online public square, and more, maybe it is unsurprising that they are also trying to shift our understanding of rights as a gift from God to a gift from government.

The Left’s Projection

But in this case, the radical left also engages in something they do often: projection. Everything they are guilty of doing, they accuse conservatives of doing first. Such is the case here, with the ridiculous hysteria over so-called “Christian nationalism.”

In reality, the left is attempting to replace Christianity with a religious movement of their own. Their political ideology has replaced religion. Unlike the truth of Christianity, which is founded on the promise of salvation through the redemptive love of Jesus Christ, their new faith is based on anger and resentment, and it offers nothing but division, misery, and desolation.

Freedom and God-Given Rights

It was that belief that our rights are a gift bestowed on us by our Creator that led to the founding of our very nation. This belief freed the slaves, inspired the civil rights movement, and gave us the courage to liberate millions upon millions from the grip of authoritarianism in two world wars. Indeed, the idea that human beings are not endowed with rights by God is the foundation of every tyranny in history, which has stripped its citizens of their dignity, their rights, and their liberty.

Our American founding, premised on the idea that our rights come from our shared Creator, is a bulwark against that sort of tyranny that springs up all too frequently in other countries. If that is what we are calling Christian nationalism these days, then count me in.

No. We're going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you're not going be able to sell those cars. If i get elected. Now, if I don't get elected, it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole -- that's gonna be the least of it. It's going to be a bloodbath for the country. That will be the least of it.

But they're not going to sell those cars. They're building massive factories, a friend of mine. All he does is build car manufacturing plants. he's the biggest in the world. I mean, honestly, I joke about it. He can't walk across the street and in that way he's like Biden, but for building a plant, he can do the greatest plants in the world, right. That's all he cares about. I said, I'd like to see one of your plants recently. I said I'd like to see where can we go? Well we have to travel to Mexico. I said why Mexico? He said, because that's where the big plants are building. China is building really big plants in Mexico and Mexico's building. What about here? Well, we're building much smaller plants here. Can you believe it? Can you believe it?
