Blue Ridge Parkway to be closed indefinitely after Helene: Park Service

The country’s most-visited national park site, the Blue Ridge Parkway, will remain closed indefinitely, the National Park Service (NPS) said Wednesday.

The closure affects the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway, though some parts were hit harder than others by storm damage. It comes right as the region and scenic road typically see a boom in tourism, as weather cools and the leaves change colors.

National park officials said the closure will be in place as crews continue their initial assessment of the damage from Hurricane Helene. The 469-mile scenic road starts at the Shenandoah National Park and ends at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Parkway winds through the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia and North Carolina, two states that suffered serious flooding and storm damage.

Rescue operations were ongoing nearly a week after the storm barreled through the region. The efforts were especially challenging in the mountains of North Carolina, where remote communities were hard to reach with all the washed out roads. The death toll across the Southeast topped 200 on Thursday, and hundreds were still reported missing.

Initially, two sections of the Parkway were closed ahead of the storm, but the full length was shut down on Saturday.

NPS said it has activated an incident management team, which is assessing damage and stabilizing park resources.

There is no scheduled date for reopening any parts of the road.

The 73 drugs made at Baxter's flooded site

After Baxter International temporarily closed its North Cove facility in Marion, N.C., the company told customers in an Oct. 3 email to evaluate their inventory of several saline, dextrose and Lactated Ringer's presentations.

The site has been closed since Sept. 29 because of flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. The North Cove facility is the largest manufacturer of intravenous and peritoneal dialysis solutions in the U.S.

A similar situation happened last summer when a tornado ripped through a Pfizer plant in North Carolina; the facility manufactured 25% of Pfizer's sterile injectables used by hospitals. As Pfizer worked to recover, there were 65 medications at risk of new or worsened shortages.

At Baxter's North Cove site, here are the medications and their NDCs:

Lefties losing it: Food pantry bans white people, certain people should drown, and projecting Nazism

You would think by now with the world rejecting the insanity and collectivist ideology of the erwache (or woke left) that they would undergo some self-reflection, and realize that maybe they’re wrong.  Perhaps they would reconsider trying to shove the failed concepts of communism down our throats, and that indoctrinating kindergartners into their “trans” cult was a bad idea.

But you would be wrong; instead of acting like normal human beings, they’ve arrogantly doubled down with the delusion that it’s our fault their Utopia in the making is falling apart. (Projection has always been one of their primary failings.) At the same time, they continue with their usual tactic of spewing fact-free accusations at their political opponents, and endless cries of “racism.”  The problem for the fascist far-left is that we have the receipts that show their inherent racism — as they try to project and make the insane case that it’s the pro-freedom right suffering from this malady. Then, of course, amidst their well-deserved ignominious defeat, the socialist left of every nation lashes out with the usual baseless slurs that have been eviscerated so many times before (herehere, and here), that it’s become an embarrassment.

We have a couple of new examples, gleaned from the constant stream of stories, that show that the left is not only losing, but it’s driving them insane—better make that more insane, since they lost the plot years ago but won’t seem to accept it.

From The Post Millennial, hat tip to Tim Pool:

A Minneapolis, Minn. food pantry is only giving food to ‘Black and Indigenous’ people, those who are hungry and white are told not to take the ‘resources’ available. Mykelo ‘Keiko’ Jackson, who runs the food pantry, was awarded a Minnesota State grant to open the food pantry.

[snip]

In an Instagram post, Jackson justified the reason for prohibiting white people from using the food pantry. ‘Did you know?!’ She wrote, ‘White neighborhoods have an average of four times as many supermarkets as predominantly Black communities. While this number may be a shock to some it very much reflects current conditions amongst many BIPOC neighborhoods who’ve been classified as a ‘food desert’.

[snip]

‘America’s food system, like so many other systems, too often overlooks communities of color. The term ‘food apartheid’ encompasses the systematic lack of access to healthy foods and takes into account race, geography, and economics. This intersectional approach to understanding America’s food system attributes a lack of access to healthy food, which disproportionately affects communities of color, to our country’s history of systemic racism.

Remember, these are the same people who project racism every day of the year.  You can probably guess why the market doesn’t support businesses in certain areas.  But as is usually the case, the far-left refuses to look in the mirror and consider if it’s a problem of their own making, like “defund the police” insanity—so they simply double down.

But that’s just the start of the insanity, because now the lefties want “certain” people to drown:

Like the targets of a hurricane, nothing is safe from the left’s path of wrath.

Our cultural and institutional overlords have ensured nothing and nobody is spared from getting caught up in their desperate attempt at mental gymnastics to achieve social justice.

Not even an indiscriminate natural disaster will keep our race-baiting leaders and ivory tower intellectuals from blaming white people for its disproportionate’ effects.

That is until Hurricane Helene ravaged the rural south, drowning and destroying the livelihoods of its mostly white victims.

Suddenly, the racial Marxists governing us seem to pretend the hurricane never happened, as their vitriolic anti-racist followers are taking to social media from the comfort of their dry homes to celebrate the death of an entire population whom they say deserved it.

(See also, “Leftists celebrate deaths and destruction in red states after Hurricane Helene” by Monica Showalter.)

Then of course, the disaster wouldn’t be complete without blaming it on global cooling/global warming/climate change…except that this type of horrific flooding has happened before; in 1916, there was a flood of epic proportions:

The account of this flood can be read here (it is worth the read) - and it is every bit as devastating as last week’s flood - except the population in North Carolina was smaller then, so one might speculate that loss of life from this might be much more significant.

But those kinds of facts have never stopped the nation’s socialist media from politicizing and exploiting disaster — they just conveniently ignore the facts that show these natural disasters have always taken place… before the fascist far-left decided to exploit other people’s pain for their political gain.

Lastly, a report on lefties losing it wouldn’t be complete without looking at how they react with each well-deserved beatdown of their globalist agenda.  You could say that Donald Trump is at the vanguard of a movement defeating and destroying the fascist far-left:

The latest example of their inability to muster enough copium to deal with defeat comes from Austria with 29.2% of the vote for the “far-right” Freedom Party (FPÖ).   This caused that nation’s socialist left to turn out to protest their defeat in a democratic process with choice protest signs reading: “Nazi Out of Parliament” and Ickl ist ein Azi (referring to Kickl, the leader of the Freedom Party).  A translation of a news report explained that “journalists are not allowed to show what is meant by it.”  The fascist far-left isn’t just losing in the states, it’s losing all over the world.  The people are roundly rejecting their socialist national agenda, and it’s driving them out of their minds.

As we get closer to election day, the fascist far-left in the states is going to become even more desperate.  They regularly refer to Donald Trump as “Hitler” while complaining about Komrade Kamala memes, and they’ve already accused Trump of being the Antichrist, so you can just imagine their growing insanity over the next few weeks.

Emhoff incident raises questions about Kamala's long history of covering up for bad men

By Monica Showalter

After credible allegations that Doug Emhoff, who is Kamala Harris's husband, struck a woman so hard she spun around, along with the claim that the household nanny he impregnated earlier had accused him of "causing" her miscarriage, maybe Kamala Harris, who's running for president, ought to be looked at closer by voters for her strage enabling behavior around a lot of men.

RedState writer Jennifer van Laar has some pointed questions she ought to be asked:

What did Harris know about this, and when did she know it. Seems she's pretty good at covering up for certain kinds of men.

Where have we heard this before?

In the fact that she assured the public for years that Joe Biden was as sentient and sharp as a tack as it was as possible to be. She stated this, over and over, even though, having been with Joe up close, she had to have known that he was getting senile, inchoate, and demented.

Asked about it in late August, she was brazenly shameless about that coverup, according to the New York Times:

Vice President Kamala Harris said on Thursday that she did not regret defending President Biden against claims that he had declined mentally, saying that she believes he has the “intelligence, the commitment and the judgment and disposition” Americans expect from their president.

“No, not at all. Not at all,” the vice president said when asked if she regretted saying Mr. Biden was “extraordinarily strong” in the moments following the disastrous debate in June that led him to abandon his bid for re-election a month later.

“He is so smart and loyal to the American people,” she said.

And she probably knew about it early. In August 2021, she was reportedly asking about the 25th Amendment "process" for getting rid of senile old Joe.

Go back into Harris's long-ago, and the pattern just keeps holding.

As district attorney in San Francisco, she inherited a hard-charging case against pervert-priests who molested kids in the Catholic Church, which had been prepared by her predecessor, Terrence Hallinan -- and just dropped it, in what was believed to be a political move. Investigative reporter Lee Fang sums it up this way in his investigative piece:

The San Francisco District Attorney's office was preparing to share files to prosecute clergy sex abuses. Then, Kamala Harris won an election and reversed course.

And according to the Associated Press, in a piece dated 2019:

Survivors of clergy abuse and their attorneys say that Harris’ record on fighting sex abuse within the Catholic Church is relevant as the U.S. senator from California campaigns for the presidency as a tough-on-crime ex-prosecutor who got her start prosecuting child sexual abuse cases. They complain that Harris was consistently silent on the Catholic Church’s abuse scandal — first as district attorney in San Francisco and later as California’s attorney general.

Whatever that was about, her act covered up for some very bad men.

Another incident shows another coverup -- remember this one? I wrote about this in 2018:

... Bay Area Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris of California has gotten herself into yet another scrap, this one claiming she knew nothing about a $400,000 payoff for a sexual harassment case brought on by one of her top staffers.  ...

The hypocrisy is thick.  According to Fox News:

A senior adviser to U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., resigned Wednesday over inquiries about a $400,000 harassment lawsuit against him while working at the California Department of Justice.

Larry Wallace resigned after the Sacramento Bee asked about the 2017 settlement, the paper reported.

"We were unaware of this issue and take accusations of harassment extremely seriously," Harris spokeswoman Lily Adams said.  "This evening, Mr. Wallace offered his resignation to the senator, and she accepted it."

Seriously, she didn't know?  And this was her director for the Division of Law Enforcement back when she was California's state attorney general, following her over from her D.A. job in San Francisco?  Back when she was penning a vacuous ego-driven screed (note her face on the front cover) called Smart on Crime?  And wouldn't the director of law enforcement be a kind of important position, given the crime emphasis she was using to sell herself to the public in order to get a leg up on the next rung of the political ladder?  Her conspicuous ambition seems to be making her forgetful.

No idea, she says.  And all the reported stories of what a pervert this guy was, about him making his female assistant act as a personal servant girl for errands, and worse, crawl under his desk to fix the printer, again and again, so he could get a gander at her butt, ignoring her when she asked to move the thing, and then tossing her to an unimportant division when she complained, Harris knew literally nothing?  Despite being the state's top lawwoman with him her deputy?

It's pretty well impossible to think she wouldn't have known a thing about that going on in her own office -- and covering that up, to.

One man after another -- from senile Joe to pervert priests, to this Larry Wallace underwear-ogler, and now to Emhoff's woman-behavior allegations.

She never knew, and she made sure no one else would ever know, having an amazing pattern of coverups, which makes one wonder just how many sordid secrets of other bad acting men she's sitting on.

If a political ally does something bad, including something pervy, pervy bad, Harris is right there to cover up for him, like an abused and enabling woman. Some of van Laar's commentators wondered whether Emhoff had beaten her, too, given that woman-beaters rarely have just one victim.

Whatever it is, it's shows a lot of hypocrisy coming from Kamala, and an outrageous history of coverup up for the kind of people who need exposing for the good of society. A fearless crusader for truth and justice, she is not.

Dockworkers' union suspend strike until Jan. 15 to allow time to negotiate new contract

The union representing 45,000 striking U.S. dockworkers at East and Gulf coast ports has reached a deal to suspend a three-day strike until Jan. 15 to provide time to negotiate a new contract.

The union, the International Longshoremen’s Association, is to resume working immediately. Both sides also reached agreement on wages, but no details were given, according to a joint statement from the ports and union Thursday night.

The union went on strike early Tuesday after its contract expired in a dispute over pay and the automation of tasks at the ports from Maine to Texas. The strike came at the peak of the holiday shopping season at 36 ports that handle about half the cargo from ships coming into and out of the United States.

The walkout raised the risk of shortages of goods on store shelves if it lasted more than a few weeks. But most retailers had stocked up or shipped items early in anticipation of the work stoppage.

Dockworkers End Their Strike, Accept a 62 Percent Wage Hike

Under pressure from the Biden Administration, Longshoremen’s Union accepted a tentative offer to end the strike, but contract details are not settled.

Strike Over for Now But Details Remain

The Wall Street Journal reports U.S. Port Workers Agree to End Their Strike

U.S. dockworkers agreed to return to work after port operators sweetened their contract offer, ending a three-day strike that threatened to disrupt the American economy.

The breakthrough Thursday came after port employers offered a 62% increase in wages over six years, according to people familiar with the matter.

The agreement ends a strike that had closed container ports from Maine to Texas and threatened to disrupt everything from the supply of bananas in supermarkets to the flow of cars through America’s factories.

The new offer, up from an earlier proposed raise of 50%, came after the White House privately and publicly pressed the large shipping lines and cargo terminal operators who employ the longshore workers to make a new offer to the union.

The International Longshoremen’s Association and port operators, in a joint statement, said they had reached a tentative agreement on wages and union members would return to work. They said the agreement would extend the prior contract, which expired at the start of this week, through Jan. 15, 2025 while the two sides negotiate on other issues, including automation on the docks.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the union’s demand for no more automation.

US ports are among the least automated global ports. It’s ridiculous.

'Federal, state officials indict 68 members of Southern California neo-Nazi group'

U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada said that the bust being announced Wednesday morning is one of the “largest takedowns in the history of the Department of Justice of a neo-Nazi, white supremacist, violent extremist organization.”

A total of 68 people were indicted as part of the “Peckerwood gang,” Estrada confirmed. Of the 68, a total of 42 are in custody.

“The Peckerwoods are involved in a wide variety of criminal activity, from drug trafficking to fraud offenses to firearms offenses, violence and identity theft,” Estrada said. “But what truly distinguishes them is their hate and animosity to ethnic and religious minorities.”

The Peckerwoods are based in the San Fernando Valley, Estrada confirmed, and get their name from a derogatory term used against poor white people and Caucasians in the prison system.

Members of the group often have tattoos with the letters “SFV,” which, according to Estrada, means both “San Fernando Valley” and “Searching For Victims.”

They also collect Nazi paraphernalia — such as swastikas — and Confederate flags and then display the symbols on their tattoos, clothing and through social media posts. They also display the symbol “88,” which is the numerical symbol for “Heil Hitler,” Estrada said.

The U.S. Attorney cited one example of one gang member named Ryan Bradford, who was found to be selling drugs and manufacturing explosive devices when he was arrested. A “treasure trove” of white supremacist paraphernalia was also found, Estrada added, including replica Nazi uniforms and posters of Adolf Hitler.

Bradford also allegedly made social media posts indicating he wanted to murder and commit genocide of Jewish people.

“In fact, when we searched his home, we found a notepad that had written as its New Year’s resolution: ‘Bake every single Jew,'” Estrada said. “That’s what this group stands for…that’s what the Peckerwoods are all about.”

The group also used social media to share information about criminal activities and gang rules, identify members in good — and bad — standings and target people who went against them.

“The social media use included a members-only Facebook group and private, direct messages between the gang’s members and associates,” the Department of Justice said in a release issued shortly after the press conference Wednesday.

Incarcerated members of the Peckerwood gang have entered an alliance with the notorious white supremacist Aryan Brotherhood prison gang, and many Peckerwood members are also Aryan Brotherhood members, officials added.

Some of those members benefit from an alliance with the Mexican Mafia, according to U.S. Attorney Estrada.

The indictment unsealed Wednesday by officials alleges racketeering conspiracy against the leadership of the Peckerwoods, who reportedly collected large amounts of dangerous drugs, including fentanyl, to sell on Southern California streets.

Leaders would also commit “a variety” of financial fraud crimes to fund their enterprise, Estrada elaborated, and they would use threats of violence and scare tactic to enforce the gang’s rules, which included paying taxes to the Aryan Brotherhood and not cooperating with law enforcement.

Various individual charges, including 60 counts of drug trafficking, are also included in the indictment, Estrada said.

“That’s 60 separate incidents in which Peckerwood members or associates were caught with wholesale quantities of…dangerous drugs that are plaguing our streets,” he explained.

Other members have been hit with a slew of charges: illegal possession of a firearm, gun trafficking offenses and even stealing money set aside for small businesses suffering from effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most of the defendants who are charged with drug-related offenses will face a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison, Estrada said.

FBI Assistant Director in Charge Akil Davis echoed Estrada’s sentiments on the takedown, which he called “one of the largest investigative operations in L.A. County history.”

Davis compared the San Fernando Valley Peckerwoods to a “local chapter” of the Aryan Brotherhood and said that members have committed violent acts against minorities in the L.A. area and across the state.

“This is a historic event, to federally indict this many members of a hate group,” Davis said. “We expect this investigation to significantly cripple their network.”

Speaking further on the group’s illicit activities, Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Los Angeles Field Division Rob Saccone noted that the group even set up a storefront — a fake drug treatment center — to write false documents to get members of the group off probation or parole in addition to defrauding Medicare and insurance providers.

In their searches, the DEA also found large amounts of drugs and guns in addition to bomb-making components, Saccone said.

Los Angeles Police Chief Dominic Choi also spoke Wednesday, summing up the findings of the indictment and thanking the multi-agency coalition — made up of local, state and federal officials — for their work.

“It’s a testament of the dedication of everyone involved working towards a single goal,” Choi said. “Making our streets safer for this region.”

In the DOJ release, several of the gang members were identified as Claire Patricia Haviland, 62, of Chatsworth; Brian Glenn Ekelund, 53, of Chatsworth and Brianne Brewer, 38, of North Hollywood.

Each of the three is accused of maintaining and overseeing drug stash houses; Haviland and Ekelund allegedly mailed the illegal drugs to customers and used applications like Zelle and CashApp to receive and send money, officials said.

Other defendants, such as Sean Craig Gluckman, 35, of Encino and Maria Anna James, 30, of Canyon Country, allegedly submitted false and fraudulent applications for the Paycheck Protection Program that was set up during COVID-19 to help small businesses make it through the pandemic.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the remaining Peckerwood gang members is asked to contact the FBI immediately.
