Hours After Taylor Lorenz Gushes Over 'Handsome Revolutionary' UNH Killer, Intruder Arrested At HQ

A suspect was detained at the Monnetonka, Minnesota headquarters of UnitedHealthcare just four months after the insurance giant's CEO was killed in New York City by alleged rich-kid gunman, Luigi Mangine.

"There is currently a large police presence at the United Healthcare campus. We are monitoring the situation," Minnetonka Police wrote on X at 12.22pm on Monday - later adding that a suspect had been detained "without incident."

The intruder prompted a significant law enforcement response on UNH's campus.

Taylor Lorenz Gushes

The arrest comes hours after ex-WaPo reporter Taylor Lorenz offered a full-throated defense of Mangine Sunday - telling CNN's Donie O'Sullivan: "Here’s this man who’s a revolutionary, who’s famous, who’s handsome, who’s young, who’s smart, he’s a person who seems like he’s this morally good man, which is hard to find," said Lorenz.

"Yeah, I just realized women will literally date an assassin before they swipe right on me. That’s where we’re at," replied O'Sullivan - who was gushing over Lorenz while Lorenz was gushing over Mangione. Lots of gushing going on.

In December Lorenz came under fire for suggesting "And people wonder why we want these executives dead," hours after UNH CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down.

In a now deleted post to X, Lorenz then posted an image of Blue Cross Blue Shield CEO Kim Keck.

"People have very justified hatred toward insurance company CEOs because these executives are responsible for an unfathomable amount of death and suffering," Lorenz said in another post. "As someone against death and suffering, I think it’s good to call out this broken system and the ppl in power who enable it."

Lorenz also shared other left-leaning journalists' posts, including Ken Klippenstein and Jezebel staff writer Kylie Cheung, the latter of whom wrote " the way we're socialized to see violence only as interpersonal—not see state violence (policies that create poverty/kill), structural violence, institutional violence—is very deliberate. same w/ panics about ~shoplifting~ vs how much corporations steal from every single one of us."

Isn't the left all about going after people for 'inciting' things?

DOJ: Courts have ‘no authority’ to force Abrego Garcia’s return

The Department of Justice (DOJ) argued in a court filing Sunday that federal courts have “no authority” to force the Trump administration to seek the return of a Maryland man wrongfully deported to El Salvador.

The DOJ lawyers were responding to a filing from Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s lawyers, who recommended actions the administration should take to free their client and suggested a contempt of court hearing should be scheduled.

Abrego Garcia’s lawyers suggested the administration should send planes and personnel to El Salvador to bring him back home.

Lawyers for the administration rejected any efforts by the courts to compel such actions.

“The federal courts have no authority to direct the Executive Branch to conduct foreign relations in a particular way, or engage with a foreign sovereign in a given manner,” Trump officials said in a Sunday filing in federal court in Maryland.

“That is the ‘exclusive power of the President as the sole organ of the federal government in the field of international relations,’” the officials added.

The Supreme Court on Thursday instructed the Trump administration to take steps to return Abrego Garcia, who in 2019 received a judgment allowing him protection from removal to El Salvador from a U.S. immigration court. However, it was vague on what steps Trump officials should take.

The DOJ filing argues the high court ruling only applies to domestic measures, and contends separation of powers prevents the court from telling the Trump administration how to conduct foreign policy.

U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis tore into the Justice Department at a Friday hearing for refusing to comply with her order for more information about the man wrongfully deported to El Salvador, and how the government is seeking his return.

“Have they done anything?” Xinis, appearing visibly frustrated, pressed Deputy Assistant Attorney General Drew Ensign.

“Your honor, I don’t have personal knowledge,” Ensign responded.

“OK, so they’ve done nothing,” Xinis replied.

Abrego Garcia’s legal team asked the court Saturday to compel the Trump administration to “ensure his safe passage to the aircraft that will return him to the United States,” and suggested the Trump administration lawyers should show by Monday morning why it shouldn’t be held in contempt.

In its response Sunday, the DOJ lawyers argued against any “intrusive supervision” apart from daily status updates on the case, which it also opposes.

“The Court should therefore reject Plaintiffs’ request for further intrusive supervision of the Executive’s facilitation process beyond the daily status reports already ordered,” they added.

In a Saturday update, officials said Abrego Garcia “is alive and secure in that facility” and “detained pursuant to the sovereign, domestic authority of El Salvador.” It said it had no updates in another filing Sunday.

The Trump officials also said they “object to the requirement of daily status reports and reserve the right to challenge that requirement further.”

The Hill has reached out to a law firm of counsel for Abrego Garcia for comment.

Fate RMAT Designation From FDA For FT819 To Treat Systemic Lupus

Fate Therapeutics, Inc. (FATE), Monday announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy or RMAT designation to FT819, its off-the-shelf, iPSC-derived CAR T-cell therapy currently in Phase 1 clinical development for the treatment of moderate to severe systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE, including lupus nephritis.

Fate Therapeutics said the RMAT designation recognizes the potential of FT819 to address a significant unmet need in lupus care and provides enhanced regulatory support through increased interaction with the FDA during development.

The designation was granted based on initial safety and activity data from the company's ongoing multi-center Phase 1 clinical trial.

FT819 is the first-ever iPSC-derived CAR T-cell therapy to be evaluated in SLE.

INmune Bio Partners with Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult

INmune Bio Inc. (NASDAQ: INMB) a clinical-stage biotechnology company targeting inflammation and immunology through the innate immune system has partnered with the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult (CGT Catapult) to establish large-scale, commercial-ready manufacturing for its cell therapy platforms. CGT Catapult is an independent technology and innovation organization specializing in the advancement of the cell and gene therapy industry. It was established by and works in partnership with Innovate UK.

INmune Bio’s therapies harness the innate immune system, the body’s first line of defense, to treat diseases including Alzheimer’s, prostate cancer, and recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB), a rare genetic skin disorder. With active trials across the UK, Europe, Australia, Canada and the US, the company is advancing a diversified portfolio addressing significant unmet medical needs.

The collaboration builds on INmune Bio’s existing manufacturing base at the Royal Free Hospital and leverages CGT Catapult’s expertise at its Stevenage Manufacturing Innovation Centre. The initial focus is on scaling production of CORDStromTM, a promising therapy for RDEB. In a recent Phase 2 randomized trial, CORDStromTM reduced pain and itch while showing potential to improve skin integrity and disease activity. INmune Bio estimates that approximately 4,000 children with intermediate to severe RDEB in the US, UK and EU could benefit, positioning CORDStromTM for clinical trial supply and eventual Biologics License Application (BLA) and Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) submissions. The Company believes that CORDStrom™ could be the first cell therapy to address the systemic nature of RDEB.

Following CORDStromTM, INmune Bio plans to transition production of INKmune®, its NK-priming cell medicine for solid tumors, to the same facility, supporting ongoing and future trials in the US and UK, including the Phase 2 study in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

This partnership with CGT Catapult accelerates the Company’s path to commercialization by delivering efficient, scalable manufacturing while preserving operational control.

Anchorage Digital Subject of Homeland Security Crypto Probe

The US Department of Homeland Security’s “El Dorado Task Force” is reportedly investigating crypto bank Anchorage Digital and is probing company employees over the bank’s practices and policies.

That’s according to news outlet Barron’s, which cites unnamed sources familiar with the inquiry. The nature of the inquiry is currently unclear, and both the US Homeland Department and Anchorage declined Barron’s request for comment.

Anchorage was the first federally chartered crypto bank in the US and partnered with Cantor Fitzgerald last month on its bitcoin (BTC) financing business.

In 2022, the US banking watchdog put Anchorage on notice for failing to meet various anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. The crypto firm neither admitted nor denied the allegations, which included failing to monitor suspicious activity, and said it would “strengthen” the identified areas.

Anchorage is a supporter of Donald Trump’s approach to crypto regulation and attended the president’s Digital Assets Summit last month.

The El Dorado Task Force is a multiagency body that says its mission is “to disrupt and dismantle transnational money laundering organizations by conducting aggressive proactive investigations.” It claims to be the nation’s leading AML investigative entity.

Protos has reached out to Anchorage Digital for comment and will update this piece should we hear back.

Hochul’s homecare program havoc leaves workers unpaid as federal court steps in

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s attempt to overhaul a costly Medicaid program is leaving homecare workers without pay and vulnerable people in jeopardy as a federal court steps in to try and mitigate the situation.

A last-minute court intervention by non-profit Independent Living Center groups resulted in an agreement by the state to extend timelines for aides and consumers in the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program, CDPAP, to work their way through the beleaguered registration process with the state’s new hand-picked firm.

“The state needs to take action immediately. At this point, most people have been negotiating with their workers to get assistance during this crisis so we haven’t yet seen people go to emergency rooms,” said Brooke Erickson, Vice President for Programs at Regional Center for Independent Living (RCIL), one of the plaintiffs, wrote in a statement.

Meanwhile, all signs are pointing towards massive errors in pay for homecare aides.

One aide, Tara Murphy, told reporters Friday that she and her consumer have faced issues registering with Public Partnerships LLC, the new hand-picked firm in charge of paying aides, and that she received a pay stub for $0 last week for completing a training.

I wasn’t paid by PPL this week. I don’t know if I’m going to be paid by the PPL,” Murphy said.

Another 30-year recipient in the program told The Post two of his three aides weren’t paid for their correct hours last week.

He was able to front one of the aides $200, but critics worry thousands of the program’s nearly 280,000 original consumers will be left without care as they and their aides face far more dire situations.

A spokesperson for PPL told The Post the company paid only about 100,000 aides who submitted “compliant timecards” last week, out of about 160,000 aides who have fully transitioned to PPL, according to the Department of Health’s latest figures.

The company did not pay aides who submitted timecards after a strict midnight deadline and those with outstanding paperwork issues, according to the spokesperson. The company also dismissed Murphy’s $0 pay stub as an error likely caused because she chose to have taxes withheld.

It’s unclear how many of the 60,000 who weren’t paid out by PPL may be getting paid out by their previous homecare intermediary, given the court’s injunction over the transition.

“We have not identified errors from the payroll process,” the PPL spokesperson said.

The lawsuit has also drawn the attention of federal prosecutors with the consumer protection branch at the U.S. Department of Justice, who wrote a statement to the court indicating they’re keeping an eye on the situation.

“Our much-needed reforms are putting an end to years of runaway bureaucratic spending. This transition ensures that workers who submit timecards in compliance with program rules will be paid,” Hochul spokesperson Sam Spokony wrote in a statement.

“We’ve made great progress as hundreds of thousands of consumers have access to services they rely on, and personal assistants are registered and logging hours with PPL and receiving their first payments from PPL,” Health Commissioner Jim McDonald claimed in a statement.
