Inside Curtis Sliwa’s decades-old feud with Trump: ‘Love-hate relationship’

 The claws are out.

GOP mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa revealed Monday he hasn’t spoken to President Trump in more than a decade — as insiders note the pair’s longstanding rift could imperil any push for the cat lover to drop his mayoral bid.

Sliwa, during a wide-ranging interview with The Post, attributed his current frosty relations with the nation’s top Republican to zingers he made on TV or during his long stint as a radio talk show host on WABC-AM and other outlets.

“Every week for 13 years I was on NY1 and would do political satire,” he said. “We talked Cuomo, Trump, (Bill) de Blasio, Christine Quinn, (Anthony) Weiner, (David) Paterson. Whoever was in the news.

“I think a lot of those people, including Trump, didn’t appreciate, my sense of satire and humor from time to time.”

The last time he talked with Trump was when his fellow flamboyant New Yorker appeared as a guest on one of his radio shows, on Dec. 24, 2013, Sliwa said.

He originally thought it had been even longer — more than two decades — since the two spoke, recalling a July 2004 radio interview: “John Gotti Jr. had just been indicted for my kidnapping and attempted murder that had taken place on June 19, 1992, 12 years later.”

The red-bereted Guardian Angels founder’s insight into his self-described “love-hate relationship” with Trump came as the president stages an unprecedented interjection into the mayoral race in an apparent bid to thwart socialist frontrunner Zohran Mamdani’s election.

Trump has given an unenforceable deadline of this week for long-shot candidates to drop out and clear the lane for the best anti-Mamdani contender, potentially with the enticement of a plum administration gig for Mayor Eric Adams, who is polling in fourth place.

Trump has made clear he views former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo as the candidate with the best chance of besting Mamdani one-on-one, rather than backing Sliwa, New York Republicans’ standard bearer.

One source close to Trump’s administration said a job offer had been originally floated to Sliwa, but he refused “because he’s insane.” Sliwa denied any contact with the White House.

“Curtis doesn’t like Trump. Trump doesn’t like Curtis. Trump wants nothing to do with him,” another source, who is close to both New Yorkers, said.

While the pair now has no relationship, Sliwa said their paths had crossed several times over the decades.

He said he met Trump personally for the first time in 1986, when they were both honored at the New York State Conservative Party gala.

“I said, ‘Don. You’re not a conservative.’ He said, ‘You’re not a conservative,'” Sliwa recalled.

The colorful combo continued to find common ground over the years, with Trump appreciating the outspoken public safety activist’s praise for the real estate mogul helping to save the city’s Veterans Day Parade, Sliwa said.

As Trump transitioned from businessman and reality star to politician, he ended up facing more and more of Sliwa’s ire.

During 2015, Sliwa demanded that Trump apologize for allegedly doctoring an interview to support his false assertion that Muslims in New Jersey celebrated 9/11.

Sliwa even invited Trump to participate in a “hummus summit” at a Paterson restaurant to hash things out.

But the then-rising GOP star was a no-show, according to a 2015 Herald News report — in which Sliwa also said the pair’s relationship had soured when he criticized Trump’s various bankruptcies.

When Trump was in his first White House term, Sliwa publicly called the president a “manic depressive.”

“I didn’t support Trump,” he told Newsmax in 2016. “I view him as a crack, a screwball, but this is what we got.”

A source close to Sliwa cast it as a divide between two “entertainers” in the public spotlight, sometimes on opposing sides of issues.

“There’s no real animosity, but they’ve had a love-hate relationship,” the source said. “They have disagreed on a number of local issues.”

Sliwa on Monday gave mixed signals on an endorsement from Trump, suggesting it could hurt more than help his candidacy.

“Trump should stay out of the election. Period,” he said. “It’s just charging up Zohran Mamdani.”

But Sliwa also said, “If he were to endorse me, that’s fine.”

FEMA workers fired for ‘sexting’ with ‘foreign nationals,’ other ‘sexually explicit conduct’ on job

Two Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) employees were recently fired after an internal probe determined they engaged in “sexually explicit conduct” on the job — including spending “hours sexting strangers” on government-issued devices.

The smut-scrolling staffers were identified by the Department of Homeland Security’s “Insider Threat Program,” which discovered that the now ex-FEMA employees “used their official government equipment” to engage in salacious online chats “at some of our government’s most classified facilities,” DHS revealed on Monday.

“These employees, who had access to highly sensitive systems, spent their duty hours sexting strangers, including foreign nationals, on encrypted government devices,” DHS posted on X.

“Such conduct is unacceptable, and these employees have been terminated,” the agency added.

One of the fired employees was a worker in FEMA’s IT services division and held a top secret security clearance, according to the Daily Caller

The former staffer allegedly used Facebook Messenger last month to exchange multiple racy messages with someone believed to be in the Philippines, the outlet reported.

“I saw your post on a Philippine dating group here, so I messaged you,” the FEMA IT worker wrote in one chat.

“[I] can’t bring my phone inside my workplace, so I leave it in the car. Only chat here on FB Messenger while I’m working,” read another message.

“I wish you were here sitting in my lap while I work,” the distracted staffer continued. “I want to hug your waist while I work and smell your hair, kiss your neck.”

The fired FEMA employee was also found to be searching for hotels in the Philippines and wrote in one chat that he hoped to visit in “November or December.”

The second terminated employee worked as a FEMA environmental protection specialist in Alabama and “repeatedly accessed a pornography site on the agency’s unclassified network” to engage in explicit chats with multiple people, according to the Daily Caller.

During one conversation last month — with a porn user identified by the account name “tooMessyForMe” — the FEMA employee shared a pornographic image uploaded from a computer file labeled “work memes.”

The employee was also found to have made numerous sexual comments on the unnamed website.

DHS had fired two different employees last week after the probe found they were consuming “deviant pornography” – including bestiality and “racially charged” material – on the clock.

“These individuals had access to critical information and intelligence and were entrusted to safeguard Americans from emergencies—and instead they were consuming pornography,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said of the rogue workers last week.

44% of people with diabetes don’t know they have it — here’s who is at greatest risk

You can’t sweet-talk your way out of this devastating disease.

A startling new study finds that an estimated 44% of people 15 and older with diabetes are unaware they have the chronic condition, which is characterized by sky-high blood sugar.

While Type 1 diabetes often begins in childhood, Type 2 diabetes usually develops later in adolescence or in adulthood. Poor diet, inactivity and obesity, which contribute to insulin resistance, are major risk factors for Type 2.

If left untreated, diabetes can lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, eye problems and nerve damage.

“By 2050, 1.3 billion people are expected to be living with diabetes, and if nearly half don’t know they have a serious and potentially deadly health condition, it could easily become a silent epidemic,” said Lauryn Stafford, first author of the study and researcher at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Underdiagnosis was most common among young adults, even though they face higher risks for long-term complications.

The researchers determined that central sub-Saharan Africa has the lowest rates in diagnosis, with less than 20% of diabetics aware of their disease.

High-income North America has the highest rates of diagnosis.

Stafford’s team found that of all those who were diagnosed, 91% were taking meds to treat the condition.

But of this group, only 42% were managing their blood sugar levels well. Managing blood sugar is crucial to preventing long-term health complications.

The study, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was published Monday in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.

Early warning signs of diabetes

  • Increased thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Excessive hunger
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Blurred vision
  • Fatigue
  • Slow-healing wounds or infections
  • Numbness or tingling in hands or feet
  • Dry mouth
  • Skin tags or dark patches of skin
  • Increased yeast infections

How to find out if you have diabetes

There are several ways to test for diabetes.

A fasting blood glucose exam measures blood sugar levels after fasting for at least eight hours.

In an oral glucose tolerance test, the patient drinks a sugary solution and then has their blood sugar checked after one and two hours.

And an A1C test reveals average blood sugar levels over the past two to three months.
