NYPD up presence at key sites for 9/11 anniversary, UN Assembly, High Holy Days after bomb threat

The NYPD is probing an alleged bomb threat as it prepares to increase security presence at “critical” locations around the city ahead of the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, the United Nations General Assembly and the upcoming Jewish high holidays.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch noted that while threats “typically increase” around the jam-packed weeks bookended by the 9/11 anniversary, UN General Assembly and Jewish High holidays, the department will be taking extra precautions this year.

Specifically, the top cop said the NYPD will be monitoring threats to the Big Apple’s “critical infrastructure,” including bridges and tunnels linking Queens and Manhattan.

The connectors between the two boroughs were highlighted as a loosely planned target for a “group” of unidentified criminals, sources told The Post.

A vague threat that popped up on the NYPD and FBI’s radar indicated passages between Manhattan and Queens were marked as possible intended targets for unspecified terror attacks in New York, the sources said.

The would-be attackers may have ties to Iran, they added, but there were no specifics about the timing or methods of the threats.

“As always, we take all threats seriously, and we are working with our federal partners through our Joint Terrorism Task Force, as we investigate. Out of an abundance of caution, we are surging resources, and you can expect to see an increased police presence at critical infrastructure locations,” Tisch said.

The security hike comes after a summer of scares in the Big Apple.

In July, a gunman opened fire inside a Park Avenue office tower that housed the NFL headquarters and other companies, killing four people in the city’s single deadliest shooting in the last 25 years.

The gunman, Shane Tamura, stormed into the building, wielding an assault rifle in an attempt to target NFL executives he blamed for his mental health issues, reportedly spurred by injuries sustained playing high school football.

Instead, he accidentally wound up on the floor that houses Rudin Management. There, he shot and killed a young Cornell graduate before turning the gun on himself.

Just last month, Times Square was shut down after a suspicious package was left near the NYPD’s small location in the heart of Manhattan.

The suspect, who was on probation, was taken into custody and underwent a psych evaluation.

New York City’s ICE field office building was also forced to evacuate last month after five envelopes containing white powder were discovered in a mail room. The powder was later determined to be boric acid.

Charlie Kirk fatally shot, shooter at large

Charlie Kirk was shot and killed by an assassin while on stage during a stop at Utah Valley University kicking off his American Comeback Tour Wednesday, just as he answered a question from an audience member about mass shootings committed by transgender people.

The shooter remains on the loose, sources told The Post, despite conflicting reports that an arrest was made. Video was circulating on social media showing an older man being hauled away by police.

Even before Kirk’s death was confirmed, President Trump somberly spoke of him in the past tense, telling The Post, “He’s not doing well…yes, it looks very bad,” adding that he was feeling “not good” about the shooting.

“He was a very, very good friend of mine and he was a tremendous person,” the president said.

Kirk was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery, his condition touch-and-go, a nurse told a longtime friend and former Turning Point USA employee Laci Williams who relayed that information to The Post, later confirming reports he had passed away.

The conservative influencer jerked back and appeared to recoil in pain and grab at his neck as the crack of a single gunshot rang out from the crowd, dramatic video from the scene shows.

Kirk, 31, was conducting a Q&A session from a pop-up tent on campus when a gunman fired a shot from the university’s Losee Center with a long gun around 200 feet away from where he was speaking, according to sources and a university spokesperson, sending thousands of spectators into a panic.

Former Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz, who was at the event with his family, told Fox News that the shot came during the second question Kirk was answering about transgender shooters.

“He fell back to his left. Everybody hit the deck. Everybody was screaming, then everybody was running,” he said.

Chaffetz added while Kirk had some security guards in front of where he was speaking, there were no security checks going in and the event had a light police presence.

He told the outlet he believed it was “no coincidence” Kirk was shot during the question about transgender mass shootings, adding that he realized “he may be criticized for that.”

Chaffetz said he believed that Kirk was shot at close proximity from the front of the stage.

Kirk jerked back and appeared to grab at his neck as the shot rang out.

Police in Orem, Utah — where the university is located — could not provide further details but promised to keep The Post updated as more details emerged.

President Trump addressed the attack in a Truth Social post, writing, “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”
