Athenahealth (ATHN), which previously announced in early June that it will consider strategic alternatives, has “cast a wide net” to reach out to financial sponsors and potential strategic bidders in its process, said Dealreporter, according to contacts. Sources and a sector advisor told Dealreporter that Cerner (CERN), IBM (IBM) and Microsoft (MSFT) are among the strategic bidders that are likely to look, though the sector advisor believes Cerner’s new CEO is unlikely to make a major acquisition at this time, the report added.
