The son of alleged would-be Donald Trump assassin Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested Tuesday morning on child pornography charges after the feds found hundreds of sick images when they searched his phone following his dad’s arrest.
Oran Routh, 35, is accused in a North Carolina federal court of receiving and possessing child porn — a fact which the feds discovered on Sept. 21 when they were searching his Greensboro home in connection to a separate investigation, according to a criminal complaint.
Oran is the son of Ryan Routh, who is accused of trying to kill the former president while he was golfing at his club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sept. 15.
The feds searched Oran Routh’s second-floor rental unit — a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment — finding electronic devices including a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 found in a laptop bag that contained “hundreds of child pornography files,” the court papers claim.
Here's what we know about the assassination attempt on Trump in Florida:
- Former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sept. 15, 2024.
- Trump sent out a statement to supporters soon after to report that he was “SAFE AND WELL.”
- The suspect — identified as Ryan Routh, 58, of Hawaii — was able to get within 300 to 500 yards of Trump at a chain link fence on the edge of the course, where he had an AK-47 and a GoPro camera set up, apparently to record the planned shooting.
- Routh has a history of supporting progressive causes online and has made 19 donations to Democratic candidates since 2019.
- A Secret Service agent spotted and opened fire on Routh as he put his gun through the fence. The suspect fled and was arrested on I-95 a short time later.
- According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Trump’s security detail was lighter because he isn’t a sitting president — despite the previous attempt on his life in July.
The videos show children as young as 6 being sexually abused, feds allege.
There was also child porn on another Galaxy Note 9 that Oran Routh had on him, the complaint says.
The phone also had a messaging app often used for the distribution of child porn, with messages from July asking for a preview of the sick content before two files were sent to the device, the court papers claim.
Oran has three prior arrests in North Carolina from 2015 and 2016 including for allegedly driving while impaired, assault on a female in two separate incidents and interfering in emergency communication.
It was not immediately known who was representing Oran in the criminal case.
