Federal prosecutors in the United States are examining Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser over a foreign trip funded by Qatar, the New York Times reported, citing people familiar with the inquiry. The probe is being directed by the US Attorney's office in Washington.
According to the Times, the review centers on a 2023 trip Bowser and several staff members took to Dubai for a United Nations climate conference after first traveling to Doha. The mayor's office reportedly gave conflicting accounts of who paid for the travel. A letter later showed Qatar covered more than $61,000 in expenses.
