United States President Donald Trump urged Senate Republicans to redirect federal healthcare funds away from insurance companies and send the money directly to citizens.
He stated that the change would allow people to buy their own coverage and still retain extra funds. "In other words, take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to the people, and terminate, per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World, ObamaCare," he said. Trump also repeated his earlier demand that the Senate end the filibuster, the rule requiring 60 votes to move legislation forward.
The president's remarks come as Republicans continue to debate the future of the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, which Trump consistently opposed.
