Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed on Wednesday that Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk have formally submitted their resignations. "I have submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a motion to dismiss Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk. The ministers submitted their resignations in accordance with the law," she wrote on X.
The announcement followed President Volodymyr Zelensky's call for both officials to step down over alleged links to a $100 million corruption scheme in the energy sector. Investigators say a close Zelensky ally masterminded the kickback network involving the state operator Energoatom.
The scandal has intensified public frustration as Ukrainians endure power outages from Russian strikes, while Kiev continues efforts to comply with EU anti-corruption requirements.
