The United States House of Representatives passed a funding bill to end the longest-ever US government shutdown, sending it to President Donald Trump's desk to be signed into law.
The final vote was 222-209 in favor of reopening the government after a record 43 days, with six Democrats breaking ranks to back the Republican-led measure. Trump's stamp of approval, the only remaining step, is expected at 9:45 pm ET, as per the White House.
The measure establishes provisions reversing recent firings of federal workers, guarantees backpay for federal workers and funds the government through January. But it does nothing to guarantee the extension of health insurance subsidies, which is what most Democrats fought for in the first place, leaving them to settle for a promised vote on the issue in mid-December.
