Iraqi Oil Minister Hayyan Ghani confirmed Saturday that negotiations with the US company Chevron are ongoing to operate the West Qurna-2 oil field in southern Iraq's Basra province, following the withdrawal of the Russian company Lukoil due to Washington sanctions.
Ghani, who also serves as Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister, told reporters during the opening of the 11th Iraq Energy Exhibition, that Basra Oil, the field's second partner, has not yet taken over operations since Lukoil left.
