Mamdani blames Trump’s ‘year of cruelty’ for Good’s death, repeats incendiary ‘murder’ claim

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani claimed that the death of 37-year-old mother Renee Nicole Good at the hands of an ICE agent was the result of a “year of cruelty” from the Trump administration — as he doubled down on his incendiary declaration that it was a “murder.”

Mamdani pushed back on Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem’s claim that the federal immigration officer was doing as he was trained when he fatally shot Good in her car after she hit him in Minneapolis on Wednesday, instead blaming President Trump’s aggressive deployment of ICE agents across the country for her death.

“If that is following his training, then I think there are larger questions about the training that’s being provided to ICE agents,” the Democratic socialist told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Thursday night.

“We can all see that video and come to our own conclusions that that ICE agent murdered a woman in Minneapolis, and it is a glimpse into what has been a year full of cruelty.”

Mamdani said he believes New Yorkers — 3 million of whom are immigrants — woke up yesterday feeling “a heightened sense of anxiety” and fear of leaving their homes.

The mayor said he’s shared his concerns with Trump about ICE’s “inhumane” operations.

“It is clear to myself and to so many across the country, as I’ve shared with the president directly, that these ICE raids are cruel and inhumane and they do nothing to further the cause or the interest of public safety,” he said.

Mamdani made the comments Thursday night, before dramatic new footage taken on the agent’s own cellphone came to light Friday, showing Good’s wife was antagonizing ICE agents — and even urging her to “drive, baby, drive” just moments before the shooting.

The Post reached out to City Hall for comment on the new clip but didn’t immediately hear back.

Collins also pressed Mamdani on why he once again chose to describe the fatal shooting as a “murder,” something that even Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey — who furiously told ICE to “get the f—k out” of his city — has refrained from saying.

“That was the conclusion I came to just in watching that video, and I think that’s the conclusion many Americans came to, that same conclusion, no matter how many times this is mischaracterized by others,” Hizzoner responded.

Mamdani has consistently promoted resistance against ICE, which he has described as a “rogue” agency, and, in his Democratic primary victory speech in June, promised to use his power as mayor “to reject Donald Trump’s fascism [and] to stop mass ICE agents from deporting our neighbors.”

Last month, he urged New Yorkers to “stand up” to ICE in a video message after a raid in Chinatown.

He then outlined how New Yorkers can exercise their constitutional rights when interacting with immigration authorities.

Other Democrats have also ramped up their anti-ICE rhetoric as protests erupt in cities across the country, including in the Big Apple, in response to Good’s killing.

Many in Congress are even considering forcing a government shutdown to pressure the agency to make changes, according to reports.

Frey refused to tone down his rhetoric after his profane demand that ICE leave the city.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who revealed that her office is looking into ways to make it easier for New Yorkers to sue ICE agents, also shared a story on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday about confronting an ICE agent working in Lower Manhattan.

“I said, ‘Why do you wear a mask? No other law enforcement does this, our police don’t do it, our FBI agents don’t do it, why are you doing this?’” Hochul said.
