Venezuela to release political prisoners

 Venezuela's National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez declared on Thursday that the government decided to release "a significant number" of political prisoners.

In a video message broadcast on the state-run channel Telesur, Rodriguez stated that the move would apply to "Venezuelan and foreign individuals," and that the process is taking place "as of this very moment."

He explained that the government's gesture reflects "a broad intention to seek peace" and contribute to national unity.
